Wah ! another use for my wind damaged umbrella - and no need to waste money on " invisible " lines anymore ?[:D][:D][:D]

Looks like the fellas are either blind, or so hungry / aggressive that they simply don’t care.

Wonder whether the rig also results in foul hooking ? The closest I can come up with is our local " bomb " if you are one of those who whack every time the line moves instead of waiting for the fish to mouth and run.

We got something similar in general principle of kiasuness, one that I first saw being used at Tasik Biru. It’s the rig with a net at the end of the fishing line, casted out using regular fishing rod.

Puzzled me at first on how that thing works, until I saw the rig caught small pb’s. Still wondering how those peacock bass end up tangled in the net…

This mini net thingy doesn’t seem to be very effective. I had observe boys at flood drains infested with palm sized black Tilapia. 30mins of casting the mini net only yield 1 fish. But if the design were to improve to larger nets, then it could spell disaster to our fisheries what with the ever popular concept of “kecil tak apa, goreng pun sedap” mentality.

this ‘Alabama’ rig is not entirely new here. We have this version called the ‘cakar ayam’ which is very similar, and is rigged using metal wire-leader.

as to the net rig, it had also been around for years. Some of the most proficient exponents of this rig I had seen are those fishing at Taman Jaya lake and Kelana Jaya Lake. I had noticed that some had been able to ‘net’ 3 to 4 small tilapias, JC and PB from a single cast. It does takes some skill to use effectively, and it is effective if not totally unsporting.

LOL!!! Yes, the KIASU rods. Still is 1 fish out of 4 baits.

But the A.Rig is 3 fish on 3 baits.

Off course, this could be a viral video. Somebody underwater had rigged the fish & signal the angler to reel it back.

I think out there in the far corners of the world, there are many indigenous rigs created by locals for specific fishing applications but doesn’t get a chance to be published. Tying such rigs (baitfishing or bait-casting) is an art form by itself. Similar to Flyfishing maestros, a lot of time, patience & practice are put into R&D & testing. That is what makes fishing so much fun & exciting. The learning never stops.

In the original Alabama rig article, there’s mention of a ‘flipping’ rod. Can anyone explain what it is? thanks
