Another day tarponing..

Another visit to the usual tarpon spot, Sg. Rambai. Well, i had some work there today, so i thought after that i could do some casting for tarpons, as it had been a while since i went there..

Reached there just before 11am, and the water was low, not extremely low, but low. Tarpon activity was not much, but they were there. Not wanting to wait any longer, i quickly set up my gear, and used my baby cima 45mm minnow. 15 mins of casting, and nothing…

I thought this is just another day of bad luck and tarpons are not biting… feeling kinda sad, i changed to my powerbait grub 3" + gamakatsu jig head, that is always never disappointing for me, at least when tarpons are concerned.

1st cast, a hook-up! Feeling happy again, i reduced the drag and started to play with the tarpon. BIG mistake, as after the 2nd acrobatic jump, the fish managed to free itself from the hook. DAMN!

2nd cast, again, a hook-up. This time, i could feel the pull to be stronger. Aah… finally, a decent sized tarpon, not those small ones. Managed to land this one.

1st tarpon:

too bad the hook had badly damaged the mouth, and was careful enough to release it the gentlest possible way.

After that, there were nummerous bites and tugs and pulls, but no solid hookup. After about 5 mins after the 1st tarpon, i had another hookup, and sadly, lost it due to its famous acrobatic jumps. Around another 5 mins later, another hookup, this time a smaller tarpon. Managed to land this fellow..

2nd Tarpon:

After that, the sun too hot for me to handle, and the tarpons were getting less and less… Another 5 mins of casting, and another acrobatic jump, i decided to call it a day..

Not too bad, considering i was only there for about 45mins.. 2 tarpons landed, 3 lost due to tarpon’s acrobatic nature, and countless tugs and pulls…

Hhm… now i want to go back again.. This time earlier in the morning..

Do give me a call suresh coz i am staying in Bandar Botanic(behind Aeon Jusco) too…[:D]

For those boney fish, i was taught by those local fisherman to strecth their backbone using a set of plier on its tail and another on its head area and PULL~!!! This will arrange those fine bone in a one way order lying flat below the meat. To eat, just start from head to tail(neva tail to head). Port Klang Tarpon is kinna too poluted to eat, i sometimes does this ‘back strecthing’ for Terubuk…[:D]

:). I heard that too… I thought it was just a myth. So its true, that if you pull the bone will be arranged? cool! hhm… now to get a tarpon, but not from sg. rambai.

Oh i didnt know you stay there too! goody! will give you a call if im coming down!
