As 4 me, d long holidays gave me d chance 2 finally finish up on my lures (yes, still doing it..) Been working on it 4 months & month!! [xx(] Couldn’t motivate myself on finishing these lures. Finally got time 2 sit down and get it done…
This time around, decided 2 duplicate a lure that I got a couple of Haruans with it. So, copy something that works lagi senang, rather than doing my own design… so I thought..he..he..he..
This is d real McCoy. Storm Thunder Crank(I think… lost the box). 3” long with bb in it. Looks easy & simple 2 make. Should have no problem carving this 1. The only problem is the line tie on the lips, and bended lips. Did some search and overcome that problems..
Clone 01
Colours close 2 d ori, minus d fine details. Decided not 2 do it with my shaky hands. Only use double hook, no split rings. This is bcos d damn lure sinks with treble hooks & split rings. Put 2 much weight in it!!(Tank test it without d hooks..ha..ha..ha.. silly me![:I]) Tested it and differ from d real thing. It kind of brushes d bottom(with tight wiggle) & slow(very slow) rises 2 d surface. Works well with not so snaggy areas I guess… Lupa.. didn’t insert any rattler.
Clone 02
Simpler colour, red all around, with slghtly darker back. This 1 is 4 d CNY mood…[:D][:D] Action similar 2 Clone 01.

Something requested by my daughter [:D][:D][:D]. A huge fan of Nemo… Been like a shadow 2 me while working on d lures. Sure put a smile on her face with this 1… Now she wants 2 follow me fishing… haiyaaa…[:p] Action similar 2 Clone 01 & 02

Decided 2 put rattler in it. So use a glass fuse. Insert a few bb in it. Again 2 heavy. Not as heavy as Clone 01, 02 & 03. Barely float with treble hooks. So have 2 use double hooks. Tight wiggle . Paint it 2 look like a frog, since I’m using it 4 Haruans..
Clone 05
This 1 has a cutout bb chamber in it. Dig from underneath(between belly eye & tail eye. Cover it with scrap lexan. Bcos of d cutout, this 1 has a better buoyancy. Action wise, I can say close 2 d ori. D only thing is, it doesn’t rise as fast as d real thing. Maybe bcos d ori is made from plastic, lighter than wood??? Paint it with silver can spray(I kinda like the glitter on this can spray..) and add the other colours with airbrush…
Thats about it. 5 is as much as I can go at 1 time..[XX(]
About weighting, the best way to test out your lure is to seal your lure (prevent water entry when testing), attach all hardware then use cellophane tape to tape weight to your lure. This way you can determine the exact amount b4 drilling & attaching the weight permanently. Usually for any new lures I make there will be one sacrificial body which I test things out with, well sometime even more [:(]
i use the same method to ‘roughly’ determine the weighting
as taping the weight outside the lure n inserting the weight inside the lure will hv some diff
after drilling and inserting the weight, test the lure again w all hardware, might need some minor adjustment
so, it means more trips to the bath tub [;)][:D][:D]

What bath tub. Better to use a 2’x 1’ aquarium.(in your case, the 4’x 18"). Can also see if the lure is lopsided.

Did d testing with weight insert in a drilled hole & test with diff size weight. Adjust till everything sits perfect. D mistake was tested it without d hardware. Didn’t expect all d hardware will make 2 much different… THAT was a very valuable lesson 4 me [:D]
Thought of drilling out d weight & change with lighter weight. what do u think??
That’s an option SISIK. Make sure u drill at dead centre and straight else ur lure might list to a side. To patch up the hole later try looking for some epoxy paste stick. It is 2 part epoxy stick, looks like plasticine. U knead equal parts together like making dough, then can use to patch up hole like a filler. Cures very hard and very easy to sand or u can use water and finger to smooth it out, no need sanding at all. Ya paint stick to it very well too.
man…looking at those beauties got me drooling… i’ve halted luremaking d/t time constraints and had picked up fly tying instead heheheheh…i can tie a hundred flies and yet unable to complete a lure heheheh
Hi guys, just 2 update u guys on my field test last weekends. Went 2 my usual spot & start throwing out those lures. Decided 2 use my Ryobi T1 instead of my usual spinning reel. Bought this 1 some time ago but never really get the feel 4 it. Dono why I grab this 1 instead of the usual. As I expected… backlash with every throw…[XX(][XX(] After lots of untangling, adjusting & cursing, finally got the hang of it… After changing from this lure, 2 that lure, then 2 d other, then d other 1, then… BHAMM!! got a BITE!!
This haruan practically FLEW out of d water 2 munch my Froggy!! That was a sight 2 c.. Manage 2 control its run & keeping d line tight & finally land it..
A little closeup.. This 1 weight 850g. Close 2 a kilo. Never caught Haruan this big(at least 4 me[:)]) before… Always caught those small,small 1… This 1 special… caught on my lure… my lure… It fooled a fish… a pretty big 1…YEAHOOO!!.. Now I know how it feels like…[:D][:D][:D]
Thats great!! I know what it feels like to catch fish on your own lure. I myself the first time I caught a small pb on my homemade lure also siok liau.
