Talk about bad luck, I’ve not had a single damm BITE! for the last 5 weeks & 6 trips! Rabbit year is not good for me fishing. Everything that worked last year doesn’t seem to work anymore. ![]()
I live for the Hunt!

Bad luck?
i’ve not been catching many good fish since end of last year… even tho everyone else fishing beside me pulling up nice fish one after another, using the same lure and bait!!! if no fish also tak pe lah, but add salt to wound some more lahhh
wat’s worst, i;ve never really broken any rod my entire life before, cept for one rm20 ciplak telescopic rod broken years(8 to be exact) ago… but i;ve literally broken up to almost 10 rods last year with the cheapest being rm80 all the way onward to rm1150 GLoomis… now tat’s what i called ‘**** luck’, or in hokkien we called it blardy ‘kanasai’!
Anyway… i hope this year would be better than the previous one… so far not any improvement yet, save for i hasnt broken any rod yet… n really hope not especially with those tat i frequently using ones
I only have 13 years of fishing experience, so must beri tunjuk ajar!
Cheers bro hennesy.. if fishing is easy and fruitful, then it is not call fishing anymore right.. ^^ Sometimes we tend to get zero.. Is the nature of our sports.. Tat time we can think of other stuff to entertain us.. Hehehe.. [:p][:D][8D][;)]

Each failed fishing trip attribute initiative for you to learn more about fishing.
Experience improve your luck, but newbie has more luck than experience, this is fishing it is hard to explain.
BTW,
Heard of any crazy things fishios do to increase their luck!? Eg. wear red underwear, praying after every trip, taking bath in morning before trip, avoiding pork before trip, use water from fishing spot to wash hands+face & etc?

Hennessy,
You referring to Kelvin? Look like it really work for him.
The best part of fishing is enjoying the company of your fishing buddy and also the fresh air and nice scenery. Fish or no fish is another matter. As the saying goes, a bad day of fishing is better than a good day of work, AGREED?
LOL…!!!
reminds me of the other thread where even mantras were mentioned … [:D]
high low, good poor, big small, fall into water, stuck in mud, friends get fish i don’t get any, etc .. all part and parcel of fishing which makes it all the more enjoybale when you’re with friends [:D]
sometimes we get, sometimes we don’t
it happens to our mates, too .. there are times when they can only look at us …
so called beginner’s luck … lol … i had lotsa sebaraus .. but only because our guide took us to a nice river … fast flowing, lotsa reeds and rushes at the side … all hooked up on less than rm40 set … spinner was a few rm only
my wife’s 1st time at tow foo … 2 pacus (within an hour or hour and a half) - she had a few lampams, too
1st is around 3-4kg
2nd is 2kg
set: 4’ relix, ABU ULT2000 with 20lb spiderwire and 40lb fluoro leader
our friend berleyed and set the tow foo to hook for her, even helped cast out to show her … she need only wait and fight [:p]
thing is never give up, keep moving (give yourself a certain timeframe), try out different methods, different styles, different lures and bait
learn to read the areas where fish might usually congregate
places that prove and usually don’t look as if have fish might surprise you
sometimes need to return to that area many times
looking at your pix, the treed areas and the incoming drain area across from you might yield, as well as under the bridge
you went with one set, presumably
go with another set or two and bait 'em differently
you’ll find out wot fish there are while you cast … [:D]
optimise time and opportunity [8D]
took me 3 trips to temenggor to get … kaloi (palm sized) … believe it or not!
rest of me mates hooking up kaloi
try as i could and might … not one kaloi .. .lotsa leaf fish, baby baung, adolescent toman, but nada for the kaloi and lampam …
if it ain’t our time and our catch … it ain’t gonna be … jes’ enjoy and improve our casting skill
finally got lampam in tow foo
tilapia (after the rest of me mates including a first timer got theirs!) in sg buluh and then at tow foo
got to fight my wife’s 1st pacu
juvey belida in subang and cyberjaya (almost 20 years after my first baby sepat in bukit cerakah)
haven’t got me own dinner plate sized baung yet [:p]
target the fish
remember to enjoy our God-given nature, its wonders and surroundings with our still functioning senses [:D]
fish will come, sooner or later

Agreed, although no fish but the company, laughter & exchange of jokes was best.

no jokes mate…i’m a weekend angler..
going on a trip and get nothing..
the least is you have the chance to go outdoor
enjoy the views…breathing fresh air..
make some friends..have a couple of tears and laughter..
and please..do keep a company…for good reasons…
isn’t two head better than one…always take a few set..
if you get a broken line or rod you get the oppurtunity to switch
enjoy it all the way…as a learning process..
i enjoy all of the preparation…presentation..results..even if i fail to catch anything..
and with a company or two you might surprise yourself what they’ll teach you…
FISH IS JUST A BONUS…IT’S NOT THE FISH THAT YOU’RE AFTER ACTUALLY…
I enjoy casting my lure, the swinging motion , the sound of the line goes through the line guide and the splash of water indicate your lure landed nicely is the most beautiful of all.
Fish grab my lure or not, different story. I like the moment when different technique use to cast the lure, while using the lowest possible energy to cast it accurately. (too much Japanese Bass Fishing I think, hehehe)
I just could not miss the Japanese Angler casting their lure. It’s ART man I tell you!!! I always watch the way they cast and learn on how to mimic their action.
Sport fishing is full of learning new stuff. Yes, at times we have really really bad luck, not even a single fish for the whole years. But we learn as we go through all this.
We learn until we get old and never say we are good in something as there is a lot of brilliant people who are 1 billion time better than you. Short term, don’t LAN C…
Cheers~~ Happy Fishing.. hehehhehe

For those who enjoy fishing even if they didn’t catch any fish, I salute you !
Honestly, I will feel down, disappointed and defeated if I dont get any bite for each trip.
And I start analyze what went wrong. What difference encountered this trip compared to those previous trips which were successful. I write notes in my handphone after each trip. Details like weather (eg. temperature, barometer, moon phase), time, location, baits, rigs, size/type of hooks, no. and species of fish caught, down to the details of what I wear [:)] That makes me feel better whenever I have a disappointing day. Soon, my pak kor trip will reduce
I hope some day I will enjoy the process of fishing even if there is no fish being caught. Similar to enjoying shooting a century for 18 holes. Guess that is a natural process as I accumulate fishing experience
“A good angler needs the ability to foretell the best location to fish, the best time to fish, the best bait, and the best technic. And to have the ability afterwards to explain why there is no hook-up”
Like Cantonese saying goes, Dong Kar Ng Tar, Tar Sai Kar - “East side no job than work at West side then”. If your target species are not responding, then consider switching to other species. Eg. Instead of casting for Haruans, Tomans, Sebaraus (Luring/Casting), switch to Tilapia, Pacu, Patin, Soon Hock (Bait fishing). We are blessed in this country to have a great variety of species. Sticking to only 1 or 2 type of fish is just limiting ourselves. Fishing is more fun & exciting when we make a change every now & then.

Hehehehe. Have you guys ever wondered that it may not be due to bad luck that you are not catching fish? It could simply be there are not enough fishes in that body of water you are fishing at? :-). Perhaps today, we may have more anglers than fishes? Food for thought ![]()
