BEN aka FLICKER REVISTED ROMPIN

This time BEN aka FLICKER revisited Rompin with his friend BILL from China. Ryan & Alwyn from JB also joined the trip. The sails were still around and we landed four within the first half of the day. First on the list was Ben, we gave him the honor to fight the first sail, he was grinning from ear to ear while bringing in his catch for a quick photo session.
The Chinaman who stole the name from BILL GATES was next to fight his first and personal record. The sail was giving him a tough time by diving under the boat a few times before it was landed.
Ryan & Alwyn landed one each, by then the sky was getting ugly and the southerly wind picking up fast & furious. We returned to the jetty about 2.30pm.

Here are some pictures of the first day trip:

From my last two pictures, can any one explain what are those wriggling worm-like creatures doing in some patches of Rompin sea???

I am just as ignorant & surprised to see those worms for the first time in Rompin waters, may be SILD or AYAK or other marine biologist can shed some light on such phenomena.

I was curious, did a search on the worm thing.
Most likely, it could be balolo - apparently they surface ramai-ramai to reproduce in the month of October.

I couldn’t get a definitive answer whether or not we have balolo in Malaysia though.
So, all the above could be wrong.
Sild, Aayak, lai lai…

Back to the fishing, congrats guys! Looks like it was a fun revenge trip!

Edit: Looks like all these worm like creatures (not limited to the balolo) surface in October-November to mate & reproduce.

Some of you guys are right that they are Palolo sea worms. They come out from their coral bed “hole” in numbers to spawn. Sorry, that’s all I can remember. I heard this from a boat skipper many moons ago off Maldives.

The PALOLO WORMS have no spade shape heads, see this link:
http://seapics.com/feature-subject/marine-invertebrates/palolo-worm-pictures-002.html.

According to my pictures, the worms have spade shape heads, it is flat and beige in color, all average 6-10 inches long.

Can some experts shed some light ??

Thomas,
thanks again for organising a great fishing trip. Again the TS rods excelled in performance to help me catch my fatest sailfish. Never seen such a fat sailfish before. hehe

also the first time I have seen green eyed squid

Hi Ben, you are most welcome anytime you want me fishing with you. Your friend Bill must be very happy WITH HIS PERSONAL RECORD, now he can brag when he goes back to China. My only regret was not being able to take better video for you, I suck at adjusting the camera, don’t know all the technical terms and icon.

You all did well for the first day, unfortunately the bad weather chased us back earlier than usual. The second day squid catch was fun with all the squid shooting the black ink in all direction. My first squid was the best, Piu Mooi received the black cum all over her body, heheheh !!!

Pelanduk,
I was definitely smiling ear to ear. It was the heaviest sail I ever caught. [:D][:D][:D]
As usual the sailfish was catch and release. The squids were fillet and release [:)][:)]

Thomas,
we were all very pleased as we caught fish. doesn’t matter that we only fished half a day. Nobody can control the weather.
I am glad that Bill caught his sail as it would have been a real shame to fly all the way from china, then a 5 hour drive there, 5 hour drive back for nothing.
He will publicize his catch and will most likely be bringing friends next year to fish.

Bui Mooi is also very happy. I think it was the best holiday she ever had.

will post her squid cum drenched shirt later

Thought I’d add a bit more to this post… with some pics as well.

We met up with Ben, UT, Ryan on the 5th. All were fishing separately. It was nice catching up with Ben and chatting away the night before…

Gathered at the jetty the next day, took some pics, said our hellos and off we went for the Sails…

They were everywhere. We can see them ‘boiling’ and at times, they just don’t want to take our bites.
We fished for 3 days and our catch were:

Day 1
Sailfish - 8 hook-ups but landed only 4.
Golden Trevally - abt 3kg, took some pics and Toby just threw the bugger back into the water.
Cobia - decent sized of abt 2kg, which we had for dinner.

Day 2
Sailfish - a bit slow. 5 hook-ups and landed only 3.
Barracuda - landed and release 1.
Tenggiri - while trolling got a decent sized one.

Day 3
Sailfish - 8 hook-ups but landed only 3.
Barracuda - quite a huge one and bust-off by boat side.

That’s about all. Will let the pics do the talking…
Cheers!

Toby onto the first fish of the day… look at the bend of the TS rod…

We had double hook-ups frequently…

Then we saw a couple of trawlers, scooping up bait fishes, anchovies, tenggiris and even Sails… There were a few dead after the scooped everything up… Sad!

Then Toby was on again…

Hakim with a trophy catch…

Catch and release safely…

Shien with a nice catch…

Doc the photographer…

Toby with another nice one…

… after the 3 days, all the pics, sweat etc… then, I realised… hey! I didn’t get any Sail and take any pics at all… Bugger!! :frowning:
