hello sifu’s and SME’s (Subject matter experts) and angling friend..i have few doubts and questions..
where in malaysia i can purchase bite alarm…its huge in uk for carp fishing…
and speaking of carp fishing..why??
1- their rods are way longer (12ft>)
2- different spec in reels..

why carp rods? why not? [:D]
carp fishing involves many types of technique, from stalking, distance casting, float etc…
length 10’-13’, good to cover distances… the 12’ rod is generally used. shorter 10’ ones are used for stalking behind the bushes [:D]
the rod is rated like this 2lb, 2 1/2lb, 3lb etc… this denominates the test curve, meaning the rod bends 90deg when the weight used it corresponding, i.e a 2lb rod will bend 90deg at the active portion when loaded with a 2lb bait/lead etc.
sometimes their bait setup can be complicated with many parts such as floats, pellet holders, bombs, multi hooks, wires etc and their choice of bait range from boilies to worms to our ‘hong’…and everyday kitchen groceries… so the rod length can help to cast these items…
better coverage, better shock absorbance due to length and action of rod etc, makes it an ideal rod for bottom fishing at our lakes/ponds…as long as not too many ppl around u lah… and of course, an open area with no trees on top. [:D]
paired with big pit baitrunners… it is a very formidable setup…
well, that’s about all that i know… do a thorough search on the net for more information.
one more thing, the good carp rods are very very costly.

p/s..i wonder why brits is so obsessed with carp fishing…but i respect the dedication …its very complicated and complex fishing…
but i realy wish our fellor anglers in malaysia have the same love and dedication as them…

Have not seen them in the country but have seen fishos adapt the device that is sold as a audio security device to warn you when a window gets opened.
Have a look at the DIY shops - they do not make noise when the 2 magnetic parts are allowed to stick together - but give a piercing sound when they are separated.
Tried it years ago - it worked, but I did not like having the detachable part still attached to the line when fighting a fish. Maybe think of a way to have a quick release knot or something similar - but I quickly gave up and went back to my visual way.
The last time this was brought in by TCE but have no idea if they carry it now.

Fish alarm is difficult to find in malaysia because we have better down to earth stuff - the KATAK reel ! Can hear even you are 100m away [:D]
If you really need one (the fish alarm I mean), ebay is where you can buy it.
Just saw them this morning - the shop near Young Trading has an alarm for just over Rm 10. Worth a look.
