Bottom and Light Jigging @ KK

Frustrated cos my Spratlys trip canceled, I make a trip to Pulau Tiga (Survivor Island) from Nov. 15-18th. It suppose to be 4D3N trip but we running out of ice. On the third day we have to heading back to KK jetty.

The spot is not our normal playground. It less popular because the depth is only about 30-40 meters. Hence, no biggies expected. But we expect lot of table fish since the spots very popular for local fishermen to dive and catch the good table fish like coral trout, lobster, hoi lee etc. And the gears that we bring along are all light and medium tackles like the Shimano Ultegra, Shimano Twinpower, Shimano Torium. The best part is it’s only five of us on relatively a big boat with a captain and a deck crew. No hooks bigger than size 2/0 used.

Joseph with his first fish

This is what we look after, the coral trout. A below 2kg size sold nothing less than RM35 perkg if you can find it in local wet market.

Lot of sweetlips emperor but very small size. In our usual playground, the size normaly up to 8-9kg.

Diamond trevally on light tackles - 80g SevenSeas momotarou jig

Night jigging very productive for small tunas - 90g Duel luminous jig

Dorado aka belitung

It’s really light and relax jigging

Hi Bro Bwan

Nice catch bro. Very lucky that you still have this playground after the cancelled trip.

Thanks. Yes, one of the reason why I'm still here after 18 years. [:D] Actually have a 3D2N trip today but cancel it due to bad weather.

Good fishing Bwan with good catches, can we go there during the monsoon? Very good fun with light tackle, I don’t mind going there with that kind of productivity.

Of course you can. [:D]I am planning the same spot with the same boat next month. Next week friends from KL coming with his family to fish here. I'll let you know the date after I can confirm it with the tekong. We fish throughout the year from Jan-Dec but during the monsoon, the tekong will decide if we can go out or not on that day.

Bwan , what is the traveling time to the fishing spot ?

That is good to fish in comfort, not too many to prevent lines tangle.
Do let me know if you have a trip coming.

Great catch, congrats. When was the trip, is it during the monsoon? Was all the fish caught during the same trip? I see that some of the pictures are dated April 2006 and some Nov 17?

Thanks bro. It's not a GT but diamond trevally. Last time lot of GTs here but since the bombing activities it's very rare to find them now.

Bro bwan,

ohh ic..i thought it’s a GT…but a diamond trevally…[:D]

anyway…since over there a lot of bombing activity causes the population of the GTs run away from that spot, is there any marine officer around?[8D]

Think that they had outnumbered the officers.
