Hi guys, I notice most of the casting rod have a fancy butt cap.. For example my Veritas has the aluminium butt cap, but it will not be nice if its damage right? So any solution? Epoxy seems not the best way as well.

Yeah, I have also commented on this - and the thing slides all over the floor when you are rigging up in the house.
In some pay ponds where the floor is concrete - you will get deep scratches unless you rest the rod on a cloth or similar.
Try a rubber stopper from a mahjong table leg - they are available in many sizes. The only irony is that we have something pretty - but too precious to show to people when we are using it ! [:D]
Using rubber stopper huh… Well, I plan to spray it with clear coat.
Some of the Japanese angler, they always protect the butt cap. For example, if they need to unhook the fish, the rod always on their hand, not ground. If they need to rig something, they will use their feet to act as protector for the butt cap. You know what I mean.
The problem is I am lazy, so need to find other solution.. hehehehe./..[:D][:p][8D]

that’s why i alway hesitate to buy those canggih workmanship jap rods, too many restrictions in using them, else will cause heart pain. American rods better suit my use, simplistic and plain finishing, scratch here n there heart not so pain…LOL
I wonder if there’s a rubber which shrink when contact with heat. Hmmm.. if we can get the clear type, and big enough to sarung the butt and heat it, it would be nice, I believe.. ^^ Any experts there?

can try out rubber butt caps used to cap aluminium gimbals …
ain’t sure it’ll work or fit …
rubber washers or o-rings might be an alternative … but you’d have to glue it on
felt, rubber or clear plastic for furniture leg bottoms might also suit the purpose but again, fixing it …

errr, why dun just use scotch tape or cellophane tape to tape the butt cap, if your purpose is just preventing it from being scratched?
If I didn’t care about the looks, sure i will.. But I wan to maintain the look as well as practical.. thinking hard now..

No problems with the polyurethane sprays - quick and easy to use - but you may find that the 2 part epoxy / resins give you a harder finish.
Most Hobby shops stock them - and may even be persuaded to let you use a bit at a reasonable cost. Buying a set ( epoxy / resin, and hardener ) will simply result in having too much of the stuff.
Also look for them at some of the bigger fishing tackle shops where they do rod building - and ask them to put on a layer for you.[:)]
