Casting In Kuantan 1/4/07

Hie Guys, I was in Kuantan over the weekend and decided to do some fishing.

I didnt know much about where to fish in Kuantan, so i drop over at Anglers World. The local chap there gave me some tips on where to go. So i went over to the beach to see some surfcasting action, but maybe wrong timing, didnt see any surfcaster but some netters. Here are some pics

People netting

Their Catches

Even got 1 prawn hehe

Then I proceed to the jeti which the local dude claims i will find my happiness there. True enough, i soon found myself fishing in bluewater from the shore. I was casting from the wavesbreaker. I didnt catch anything though, as i was testing my casting with minnow grub from Berkley Grub. I did get some hits but no hook ups. I am guessing i was casting at the small fishes. Time for some pics

Check out that awesome water

Pups trying his luck on the wavesbreaker

After awhile, took out the 5 feet rod and started casting the RM2 apollo rig with a sinker at the end, here is the only fish of the day hahahahhahahah. Please help to identify

All in all, I must say I really love Kuantan. So many options to fish. Got freshwater, saltwater and brackish water all in one place. Dont have to pay, dont have to drive a distance to find a good fishing spot.

I will definitely go there to explore the fishing as well as the food. Till next time

distance is a problem!!!

Did you meet up with Oakin there at AW?

Nice pictures, looks like a nice spot for some barracuda action

Nice place, those rock structures/tetrapods and opposite breakers are definetly worth trying out and exploring.. afterwhich spoon and jig casting along current flow/shelter would be great, should be holding some nice fishes around there [:D]

Babypups, can you describe the location. Will be in Kuantan end of May. Might do some fishing at that same location.

megabasser, yeah will do some walking about and try another spot when i revisit Kuantan again. Next time i plan to use the sinking minnow on float wacky rig style. See whether got any results or not

hey Jay, actually I am not really sure bout the direction. If you can reach the port, at the main entrance of the port, you just drive along until the crazy ass steel structures end. You will see an opening between trees. You just drive in. Its like a park and fish place, very accessible. But i think when you go to Kuantan, visit Anglers World and describe to them my directions, i think they can guide you better or perhaps even draw you a map.

BabyPups, used to work in Gebeng, Kuantan for 2 years ('99 - '00). If I’m not mistaken, there are 2 entrance to the port. One is from Balok and the other from the Kemaman side. I’m guessing the Balok side where if I remember correctly you will come across the Kuantan Port quarters. Anyway, will recce that place when I’m there. By the way, where exactly is this Anglers World? Used to go to the tackle shop right across the state mosque and another one which I can’t seem to remember where.

BabyPups, have to agree with you that Kuantan have so many areas and options to fish. Used to fish in Sg. Balok, Tg. Api, Tg. Lumpur, Cheneh (haruan), anywhere along the coastal road from Pekan to Nenasi, Kuala Pahang, Sg. Miang, Paloh Inai and so on. Not too far away to Dungun (Pulau Tenggol) up north and even Tasik Chini down south. Hmmmm… Missing all those happy days.

Aisay baby pups, my boys send you to all the right places, just luck not on your side. Never sorrow, next time o the breakwater again. heres some catches by our PAW sifu

distance is a problem!!!

Oakin, no fish nvm, its part of the game. Most importantly i enjoy the fishing process. I am really fascinated by the place, so nice and relaxing. Somemore I finally get a chance to put my 9 footer to good use LOL. In KL where i only fish at payponds, no chance to use. Hope to chat with you at Anglers World. Will definitely go there once i reach Kuantan. Hopefully can see some Pari action with you

Baby bro, your 9 footer is consider baby rod for the surf scene, but should be OK, mebbe upgrade to 13’ if you wanna have more fun time at the beach. 1st of May kena tutup kedai or my financial controller cum direktor cum internal affair minister instruct all the staff to riot sebab kena kerja during labour day…he.he.he..we should be open the following day.

Food wise, you’d be spoilt for choice, for breakfast & local afternoon snacks, heads to Tg Lumpur for nasi kerabu, nasi dagang, otak2, satar, kepok lekor, etc. look for jammed-pack stalls, thats the hint. for best spot to belanja us makan at night, kena lah ctk us 1st he.he.he.
