Casting in Kuantan Part 2: Kuantan Revisited

Hey guys, this is the follow up trip from the last time in Kuantan. 1st trip can be viewed at the link below.

http://fishing.net.my/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=10887

Ok here goes this current trip report. Started the day with a good breakfast at Restoran Zaman for their out-of-the-world nasi lemak. This is some serious stuff man, you might get addicted.[:D]

Then headed off to Anglers World to chat with resident sifu Oakin. Learnt some tips on where to fish as well as play around with some of the nice reels at his shop. After that, I drove down to a small town called Nenasi. Went to the jeti where local dudes were seen apolloing some silver fishes. Upon inspection, its cencaru they were catching. Rigged up my rods with appolos and started cast and retrive technique. While my apollo keeps getting tangled up, my missus opened her account with these fishes

Pups got lucky[:D]

Hook ON!!!

Posing with the ever friendly duri’s

Total catch, few of the duri were released. All these fish were passed to the local, we actually was filling up his ice box, didnt bring ours[8D]

Since the results for Day 1 was good, I was feeling confident about the Port of Kuantan. So day 2 after breakfast, went back to that spot for grub casting.

Pups and saltwater

Sad to say, no fish yielded huhu[:(]
Anyway, my next visit there, i will definitely bring resident sifu Oakin along.

Till next time guys, happy fishing

distance is a problem!!!

Hiya Oakinn :

I travel to Kuantan pretty often - sometimes 2 or 3 times a month on business - but usually it’s a day trip - just wondering, is it possible to fit some time in to do some casting ?

Problem is, I’m not exactly that familiar around Kuantan - I wont get lost, but that’s about it - any taman-taman or specific locale and I’d have to dig out my road-maps - so - next time I’m in town - could I like, drop in your place ( Anglers World ) and perhaps get some pointers from you as to where to wet my lines ? ( pointers as in point me in the right direction, hehehe ) …

I’ll call before I make the trip … is that ok ?
Cheers !!

fishie…no problemo…my brother Najib is in AnglersWorld all the time, I’m there during weekends.

BTapah…ikan tu org tempatan panggil layur or timah

Baung Tapah, it’s a hairtail (Trichiurus lepturus) or sometimes called ribbon fish. Excellent bait for Tenggiri, fished whole alive or dead.

In Taiwan we call it "white belt" Japanese call it "Tai To" (means big knife)

It is also a very tasty fish, if you deep fry it and spray some soya bean souce on top.

At the breakwater, Try the gaps between the boulders, I used to get lots of kerapu. But you need to hop from rock to rock. Sorry, but this was many years ago, but I think there are still opportunities.

wow…that was a damn good catch at the breakwater…dude…congratsss
