Catch Report Phuket Thailand

It was a good day out today out of Chalong Bay. We fished Racha Yai and Racha Noi and just south on the reef. The morning started a little choppy with .5 - 1 m waves but the afternoon was Great !! We only hooked up with two King Mackerel but we landed both of them. Aprox. 5Kg and 4Kg. I did meet up with Chew and his Beautiful Wife at the Chalong pier. All in all it was a Great day out. Any time any of the MFN members get to this area I will be more than happy to take you out or help in any way I can. I also look forward to fishing in your back yard soon… [:)]

what type of lure you use for trolling?

have you ever experienced any situation where lures skipping on sea surface after a while trolling?
I experienced this problem when trolling for king mackerel earlier month near
langkawi island,

we were using halco lures, with swimming depth between 3-5 meters,

this problem did not occur when we trolled using rapala magnum

Matzab, Yes I have experienced lures skipping on the surface but it has been with smaller lures that had a small bill. I found that the Repala X- Rap Mag 30 works very well. I use the silver blue mackerel color and also I like the Dorado color. These lures dive to 10 meter and that’s another reason I like them. I also use the Storm White with Red head they do well for GT, Wahoo, Barracuda, and King Mackerel. The Storm dives to 8 meter. I have tried plane wire trace, black pvc coated wire trace, and Fluorocarbon trace. I have cought fish on all but the black seems to produce more fish for some reason. Hope this helps. neuwin, most of my fishing here is trolling but I plan to do some afternoon trolling - night bottom bashing - morning trolling trips soon. This kind of trip will cost more but there will be more fishing time also.

Hi Dan,
It was really nice to have met you and your mom at Chalong Pier. To bad we could not have more time to chat further,but pls post more info about the boat that you use, costs, how many pax per trip, etc so that we forumers can plan some trips up real soon…!!
Anyway the weather was bad and got caught in heavy rain at Patong on the 30th night. Really drenched and soaked to the bone. Got home today and really dog tired after a hectic 5 days driving round Phuket. Enjoyed the drives along the coastal roads round the island.
