anyone ever experienced the above before? I was browsing thru a newly opened shop in Scott Garden, Old Klang Road, KL named Kewl Tackles and saw some very light rods…and the thought occured to me “if I buy this for my kid n a haruan happens to snap up the bait, can the rod n reel tahan?”
hehe ofcos they can… can land sailfish also, provided u have enough line and the fish didn’t snag itself or break ur line, why not… many have been doing stuff like tat bro
I only have 13 years of fishing experience, so must beri tunjuk ajar!
Kevin, I suggest you get the telescopic prawn rod for your kid. No need for a reel, just mono line the length of the rod, a small float and a small hook. These Rods are from 6 to 10 ft and very light… Many brands, cost less than rm 40 … Great for kids and small fishes.
IMHO, If is fibre rod it should not snap, it might bend until U shape also won’t snap as long as the line holds but bringing the fish in will be challenging.
Lightest setup I ever tried Fishing was with a 7’ graphite rod with a Shimano FX1000 (consider prawn reel), spooled with 12lb mono, hooked a 1kg+ Pacu & had 10mins of fun.
