Cheap Wood Lathe

I have being looking for a cheap / economic wood/metal lathe .. but only can be found in other country.

In Malaysia, the lathe they got is either for industrial used or too expensive to buy (budget RM200 - RM300)eg, multifill - RM2K (Wood); HT Technologies - RM4K (metal)

Overseas website - Wolfcraft lathe kit =>RM300 (after conversion)

An interesting lathe (produced in china) for education used 12V motor which comprises of mill, lathe … (6 configuration) and good enough to make lures.. again where can I find it in Malaysia ???

Guys, please assist.

tried to modify the power drill, the drill chuck to small to hold big piece of wood & a lot of vibration too (until the wood become rounded).

Worst case secnario, create a plan & send it to precision engineering shop to machine the required parts for a DIY lathe. Cost ?? could be expensive

cheapest wood lathe machine available, it is free and can be accessed/used/abused at Simon Lee’s workshop. He even buys lunch if you happened to catch him at his workshop.

For directions ask the ever gay RainBow-Runner.

Got one DIY lathe from power drill here:

from the picture of turned form it seem to produce quite good results. BTW, link is from forum mostly on turning lures.

Thanks Lapala,

good idea, need mod abit to mini size.., more carpentry works.

on the serious front, how about a lathe tool used by rod builder to sand and shape cork and eva foam for rod handles? I believe that it will work if the motor is to be replaced with one of higher turning speed. Have seen one made with the use of a electrical motor from a sewing machine, it even has a foot controlled speed regulator.
