Guys, Looking for opinion from those whom had used both these reels before. What are your likes and dislikes on these reels, advantages and disadvantages. Would appreciate your opinions focused on these 2 reels. Thanks
Seams like no takers. Perhaps its my poor presentation. Maybe I shud add in more info for the seniors to help.
As you guys can see Im pretty much looking at the Conquest model but is undecided if I should get the normal Conquest or the DC model. Other than the Ziiiingggg sound, is the DC worth the extra RM500 price tag is bugging me. Im going to use it mainly for brackish and estuaries for the Tarpons, Jacks and Siakaps which isnt too seriously big nowadays except for the occassional 20 pounder which I believe the 50’s model will be more than adequate. Hopeful that the kaki’s here whom have used these mentioned reels will be in a better position to share your thoughts. Thanks
bro,
i own a conquest 51 n a 101DC n love em both.
my advice is get them both…hehehe
Peace.
Thanks Bro Wild Boar, hey if I was one step earlier in reading the post would have bought both your Alphas. Guess the day isnt mine…haishhh..Any chance u want to let go your conquests? sniff..sniff…hehehe worth a try lar.
Would loved to grab both but I have to get either 1 first lah, cause of same old problem that the money couldnt dry fast enough sadly. BTW since u have the 101DC, the 51DC is having a different brake system to the heavier version. Not sure if its supposed to be an upgrade in the 51 or downgrade of the system in 51 due to size constraints.
hehe..nice idea..
you can have a mercs or porsche..
you can still get to your destination..
make sure first you have the 'ability to 'keep’them..
and some ‘friends’ to maintain them..
both are good reels…
enjoy it…it’ll be fun..
Thanks for your comments Bro Hazadin, forgive my blurness on the lingo but did u mean to say that that Conquest is the mercs and CQDC is the porsche? How so? better to pick your mind a little for a better understanding. Also to understand what u mention as "ability to ‘keep’ them means? I hope you didnt mean that they have the tendency to grow legs in the middle of the night and run away…then I have to keep them in cages under locks…hehe.
Yes I agree with you that these 2 are kind of irresistable poison.
just my thought, going by your target species, i wuld think the 50 size is a bit under-strength, 100 size would probably suit you better.
Not that you can’t manage with the 50 size, but placing too much stress on the reel, you probably will ask the same “which reel” question in a year time (assuming you fish regularly).
Ask TJS, he has subject his cq51 to all sort of abuse, he probably can give better view.
my alphas was sold within 15 minutes of my post. wanna buy my conquests? make sure u log in every 5 minutes to the classified section. who knows i might put up conquest package one of these days…haha..

Thanks for your comments bro. I will take the heads up. But really the reason I was looking for the 51 is due to the hookup rate that falls 90% on fishes not more than 4 pounds hence the size. It is only occassional that once in a blue moon a momma siakap comes along but I wouldnt put too much hope onto that tho. The size fits nicely for an extended casting session.
I saw somewhere that you were trying to get the avail spool for your CQ, have u managed to get them? I would be very interested
mixing with knnht will be your biggest regret before getting both 51’s.
stay away and go fishing

Dear Pot,
Stop making fun of my colour.
Regards,
Kettle
I suggest u get a Calcutta 51/50 rather this two. the slower speed and the cranking power is what u needed. the Calcutta drag can be improved by washing the drag with soup and do not reapply back the grease.
now that is some constructive opinion. ![]()

lol yeah I think knht is contagious. Not everyone is as adept when it comes to performing autopsy and seeing inside a reel from what I have read…he is really a sifu at such. My admiration..

Thanks bro, agreed with u there. After the long thought, it all boils down to if I want to buy the “Ziiiiinnnggg” sound or not since I dont really need the DC function to cast. Furthermore, it will give me more option to lure types where I can drop down to tiny ones that might find some trouble of the DC tending to hold them back. Please correct me if anyone had other findings. So I went and brought a CQ51 home. Tonight Im gonna cook the soup to wash the drag with [:o)]

congrats! now you have the reel selection settled, next is to cross off item by item on your “to get” list:
carbontex washer
ABEC 5/7 bearings (5x11x4, 3x10x4, 3x7x3)
ZPI Aluminium gold colour knob
Shimano/Avail shallow spool
that should do for now.[:D]

Thanks bro, where is the best place to get those items? Can u guide me on the rough cost of those items? The Avail spool is kinda tempting. Maybe I should save all the trouble send u my new reel to you and get all that fixed at one go [:D]

wah. knht suddenly become resident ‘tackle pimp-up’ pro!
respect!
cruiser, u can order all those things online.
be careful though… u’re walking down a dark path…
one avail spool, n u’ll want aftermarket spools for all your reels. then u’ll change handles on all of them.
and then start to fit bearings wherever u can, and have reels with 15 abec-7 ceramic bearings! or even full ceramic bearings!
then u’ll go on to anodizing parts of your reel, and engraving!
at the same time, u’re buying all kinds of wood, cork, metals, acrylic, etc. and experimenting with shaping these materials.
then u’ll need to look for someone with a RM20,000,000.00 CNC machine to machine spools, gears, knobs, line guides, handles, frames, and a whole reel for you!
then u realize time to do rods…
u start with expensive overpriced japanese stock rods (n realize they’re not worth the money), then u start going down the path of matagi custom.
then u start machining components for your rods, u’re buying all kinds of wood, cork, metals, acrylic, etc. and experimenting with shaping these materials.
n u start looking for blanks in every country but Malaysia.
then u ask ppl to make blanks for u..
soon… u realize u have to run from ah longs.
and u never got a chance to fish before all the fish in the world go extinct in year 2038.
then u pick up a new hobby, like photography. hahaha!
too bad… no more nature and wildlife to photograph.
