Daiwa Certate 2500 service PART 1

tools needed: alot of different size screwdrivers (phillips & blade), a needle, adjustable spanner/wrench, brake cleaner or similar cleaning solution, reel grease & oil. plus alot of patience if it is your first time pulling apart reels.

firstly, remove the spool, handle, end cap and bottom plastic guard from the reel. next comes the fun parts. remove the spool bearing/collar retainer and the spool bearing/collar. then using a pin or similar device push out the pin sitting inside the metal bracket which the spool bearing/collar sat on. remove the bracket completely.

i have upgraded the spool collar (original certate part) into a CRBB bearing, i have also changed the collar retainer to an o ring because it seems to have a better fit.

next using a flat blade screwdriver undo the 3 engine plate screws on either side of the reel. making sure u note which plate goes where otherwise on reassembly ur gears will be very crunchy.

next, remove the side plate from the reel, u will see the main drive gear once the side plate is removed. gently tap the reel and remove both drive gear bearings. then remove complete drive gear from reel.

now undo the two screws holding the plate which sits ontop of the antireverse roller bearing assembly. remove the plate and bearing. take note of what components live where.

there is another metal plate with 3 screws stiing beneath where the antireverse bearing once sat in the reel. remove the 3 screws and plate. u will see a bearing under that plate, gently pull the pinion gear (the brass gear) out and the bearing will come out with the gear. there is a washer at the end of the pinion gear, make sure u don’t loose it..!!

next, gently pull out the main shaft, do that by wriggling it around and pulling it outwards towards the end of the reel. (pull it out as one complete assembly.

now remove the ossilating gear by removing the screw holding it.

there is one more bearing left to push out, (i forgot to take a photo of it[:D][:D]) it lives in the little box section of the reel that the mainshaft goes through. there is also a plastic washer under that bearing, again take note of which way that washer sits.

u should end up with a fully pulled apart reel looking like this. (having one more bearing and plastic washer.. hehe..!!)

now stay tuned folks for part 2, which will go though the cleaning, greasing, oiling and general tuning of the reel.

one other thing, all the daiwa certate models r the same, u will be removing the same parts on a 4000, 1000, 2500r cutom certate reel. the only difference will be the size of the parts. bearing sizes will remain the same. also this is the time to upgrade the bearings if u want to. throw in more CRBB bearings for a smoother winding feel.

what are CRBB bearings?

corrossion resistant ball bearings, daiwa terminology.. shimano would be ARB- anti rust bearing

Hi all,

New to the forum. Very informative post.
I have a Caldia and wish to modify the caldia a little. I only know about the drag bearing upgrade (shown in the first pic 3).

Can the more bearings be added? At which place?

YzF, basically, there r a few upgrades for the caldia reel.. basically anything that is bushed (like the spool/drag bearing) can be changed to a bearing. any bearing that is more exposed to water(eg line runner bearing, main gear bearing) can be changed to ceramic based/coated bearings (more corrosion resistant) instead of the normal stainless steel. hopefully daiwa will bring out the hyper digigear gearing as an upgrade part for the caldia reels. or u can try to fit in a set of certate hyper custom gears (pinion & main gear) into the caldia. drag material can also be changed, but the amount of drag that the smaller daiwa reels pump out is good and smooth enough. basically it all depends on how much u want to spend.. u can also upgrade the cosmetics of the reel.. custom reel handles, side plates, drag knobs, spools just to name a few.

Thanks Sunny. How many bushing can be upgraded in Caldia? As all the Real Four design are similiar, can all 11 bearings (Exist or Branzino) fit into Caldia or Luvias?

Drags modification sound interesting too..

Wow!! Very informative ineed! Sunny bro, i have a certate hyper custom 2500R. Does the parts inside the same with certate 2500R? Never service it yet, coz i dare not to take it apart! [|)] Hope you shed some light here…[:)]

Eagerly waiting for your part two! [:)]

Cheers

its been too long since i pulled apart my wife’s caldia, so i don’t really remember the setup too clearly, but no, you will not be able to get all 11 bearings from the exist into the caldia. in regards to bushings in the caldia, look at the reel’s parts diagram (schematics) it will give u a good idea on how many bushes it has.

Tembaring bro, to the best of my knowledge, all parts r the same between the two reels, the hyper custom has different gear material and all bearings are CRBB’s instead of a mix of CRBB’s and stainless steel bearings in the normal 2500R. only used my hypercustom twice, so haven’t bothered about opening it up yet. if u have opened any of the newer diawa reels before you should have no problem with servicing the hyper custom reel. only reel that i don’t recommend opening up is the saltiga Z range of reels, as they have seals around the whole reel. if u install the seals wrong or get a little cut in a seal it will not seal properly anymore and water will get into the reel. i have dropped a saltiga z4500 into the ocean b4 only to snag it back a couple of hours later. when pulled apart, there wasn’t a single drop of salt water inside, it was pulled apart, cleaned and serviced by daiwa australia for free as a testament to how tough their reels are.. !!

I never take apart a high-end reel. I have been using my Saltiga for the pass 3years now, never service it yet. Plus i have no idea where to send the reel for servicing..[|)] Any reccomendation? I think i will wait for your Part 2 before i take apart my certate[:p]. Apart from that, do you know where can i get a ballbearing for the Caldia 4000 kix’s line roller?

u should be able to send the saltiga reels back to the shop u purchased it from, they will then send it to daiwa SE Asia headquarters, i think based in singapore for the servicing. i could be wrong. if not u can always send it to www.plat.co.jp based in japan, they will get it serviced by daiwa japan for u for a fee which will include shipping, insurance etc. have not had any problems with them. or u can send it to daiwa australia, based in sydney, alot of SE asian customers send it to aust. just be careful about purchasing saltiga’s from singapore. i have heard first hand from daiwa’s chief honcho in australia that some of them have modified capricorn/freams J gearing inside.

u should be able to order the line roller bearing at the shop u purchased the reel from as well. i’m pretty sure a big shop like kepong would have no problem getting them in for u. just need the part number from the parts diagram. or u could try thomas or some of the other shop owners on mfn. they would have more of an idea than me.

Sunny,

Hi, I understand that you are in Melbourne from some previous post in MFN, I’m in Melbourne too. Just wondering where did you purchase the upgrade of CRBB bearing for your Certate 2500R spool collar. Is it thru a shop in Melb or online? I’ve been wanting to do the upgrade to my 2500R too… I saw an upgrade pack in PLAT, but then i came across this topic and maybe you hv better suggestion…thanks!

Oh thanks sunny bro! [:D] I bought my Saltiga Z from plat. Any idea how much will it cost for me to send it over to plat and back to me? BTW, i am from Sabah. [:D]

Cheers
