Recently, I had some spare time and went “DEEP” sea fishing with some friends in China. The boat trip to the so called sweet spots took 10 hrs. We were at sea for 3 days and 3 nites. The water was only about 35-40 meters deep…tats really deep for the Chinese, as they only load their reels with 100m of lines…the results???..total waste of time and money…total haul for us [5 chaps]…3 X senangin [total about 5kg], 2 X tengiri [total about 5kg], 36 X super mini garupa [total weight???..didn’t even bother to weight]…Haizzzzz</font id=“purple”>

Atleast the beer is cheap if nothing else. Do not be too surprise there is a line wanting the ‘Samy Velu’. It is a prime fish there.
Actually I expected the results to be not so good but never expected it to be that bad. It’s to a certain extent, my own fault by not trusting my instinct. My visit to all wet markets over here have gave me the notion that there are no biggies irrespective of salt or fresh water. The cost for the trip would have lasted me 1 whole month of clamming with all them beers thrown in…haizzzzzz[}:)][}:)][}:)]</font id=“purple”>
It is always my dream to fish a new place so China is actually one of the places that I plan to fish one day if I got the opportunity. It is not 100% true that the fishing result is that bad if you know how and when to fish. I have been following the fishing trend in Northern China for the last 1 year and managed to get in touch with the local to get 1st hand info about the fishing season in Northern China.
The latest source I got is the sea bass & yellotail are in the bay near Liaoling Province at the moment and they may stay till late August. The local hunt them using lures and poppers. If i can recall correctly our local fishing mag KINGFISHER issue no. 95 (Dec 2007) ever reported about fishing for the sea bass at that region.
I am in Southern China la. The group of friends that I went with, on this trip are hard core fishos [China standards]…the results were considered good for them. Infact according to most fishos I met here in several tackle shops that I frequent; April, May, June and early July are the best months.</font id=“purple”>
Just a little sharing here from my china fishing buddies that I used to work with him in Shanghai back some years ago.
These photos was taken 2 years ago where the company arranged so called “teambuilding” outings in Dahlian. You dont want to know the price of this boat rental. Perhaps this trip is just one day fishing.
A.H.,
Looks like quite a few fellas were fishing in the trip…look at all them babies they caught and laid dead on the deck. With this type of attitude, it proved as to why their seas dont have biggies anymore.
EK,
Ya…ya…in a karaoke aquarium…best mermaids…easy catch…with lots of RMB as baits[8D][8D]</font id=“purple”>
Gosh…small fish also take, no wonder no more biggies. BTW, China has the largest population on Earth & food comes from everywhere they can get their hands on.

So far I’ve been only one outing to sea fishing in China which took us a sampan without any proper sunshed on the boat. Basically, it is just a normal sampan about 20 ft lenght. The most scary part is, the sampan still a wooden type!!! This is what I’ve experience it at Weihai.
The above photos shown on the bigger boat which is more to boat rental, they dont really do like other proper fishing boat. Do not have any specific spots or location. That boat is not mainly for fishing used. Guess what, the rental for this boat is RMB10K/day. For this price, we can already do 4D3N fishing in Malaysia.
AH,
My trip cost a whooping RMB 4k per person. I went along as I was “assured” a bumper harvest…well…whatever we had was considered a bumper havest [China Standards][xx(][xx(][xx(]
EK,
The real reason I went for this trip is to be able to give myself a break from the daily mabuk sessions[:D][:D][:D],really wish you are here to share some of these mabuk sessions…as soon as I get back to Malaysia…I am gonna visit a doc…to see if my arteries and veins still have blood running in them or just beers[:p]</font id=“purple”>

That’s the true problem, all those mabuk sessions and no aquarium fishing activities. Guess it is the price to pay when you have a moralistic view and a full time bodyguard presence.
WKL2020,
if you are in southern china
Go to Autou (1.5 hours drive south east of shenzhen. take a boat out for RMB250 and you can get some good fish.
They were building some sort of Pier there and there were stacks of fishes between 2kg to 4kg. Looks like Barramundi. It ws a restricted area and the boat that got there before us were just hauling them up. By the time we got there the Marine police were on the water and after us. Hahaha.
Also go to Hainan island. There is a beach resort with all types of sea activities - scuba diving, bell helmet diving, water scooters and sea fishing.
I have seen Coral trout to 4kg being caught within an hour. I think it was about RMB150 per person and the fishing is about 500 meters from the beach!
