Docklands Fun Report - Victoria Melbourne.

A fun Report from a Friend
I met up with Rustie (James) today at Docklands and we had a great afternoon. In total we landed just under 50 fish. James was keeping the smaller mullet and tommy rough for bait and I kept a few larger ones to cook up a nice tempura meal for dinner (just finished it) Yum!

The best fish for the day was my 27.5 cm Trevally which put up a good fight on the very light gear, caught a few just undersized bream and also a small tailor. Other than that the tommy rough and mullet were hot hot hot. Ranging from around 15-25 cm, not huge but perfect bait size. They were hitting pretty much any bait we threw at them and we were never fishless for more than a couple of minutes.

I also caught some weird guppy looking thing, could be a Goby, will post a pic when I download them from my phone.

Thanks for a great day James, was great fishing and great company!
Let the photos do the talking shall we?

Anyway, this is the fishes my side, still got alot at linc side…

now thats interesting mate, Docklands is by far a very productive place if you work the correct place and know wat species to hit!
If i remember correctly now is the best time for breams and small tailors. During winter or pre winter youll get the occasion snappers, tailor, trevally…best bait is peeled banana prawns or chunks of tailor/mackeral meat.

have fun mate..last time during winter..i hit about 3-4 breams reaching the 40cm mark…one after another…awesomeeeee have fun mate..cheers

Wow impressive! Mind sharing what bait were used? I used to live in docklands but has never gotten mullets before. Mostly snappers taking sardine chunks during winter. Damn i miss Melbourne!

Apart from docklands, port melbourne is also a good place for snapper and flatheads.

Thanks for the comments Guys!!

Fishy,

We fished 2 hours either side of the high tide, but it really doesn’t matter too much there, though high tide is usually a bit better.

Best baits were chicken and peeled prawn, as well as silver whiting.

We fished central pier.

And also my Home Made dough for the mullets!

fishy,

im still reminiscing how melbourne was, is a beautiful place !..Still remember my first few weeks in melb, i constantly waking up early to take 2 trams to docklands. After my 3rd or 4th time there, only i was rewarded with a pinky on soft plastic..it was fun n pinky on light tackle is orgasmic…ahahah

Rustie,
For me i find 2 hours before and after each tide is the best timing ever, esp the breams. During winter a few anglers caught some major jewfish from central pier if you walk all the way to the end passing all the restaurants etc.Over in williamstown, there is the hotties and warmies..fantastic fishing there with lure and bait. Once me and sunny was there..we sighted school fo fishes literally boiling the waters non stop and we jus couldnt sight wat was it ? We headed back a few times only then on successful evening during sundown, it was really visual. I got a hit on my topwater pencil bait and its non other than the tailor. and later fouled hooked a tommy rough if not mistaken…and its bigger than palm size…the tailors were about 2-3kg hitting this baitfishes…amazing..

Rustie bro u shud try at the webb bridge area where there is a platform potruding out to the bay. the spot is paralel with Melbourne Exhibition Centre…good stufff…thats where we caught numerous breams,n pinkies non stop…

Hi Sunny,

How far is eildon from boxhill? What outfit and tackle do you suggest there and what fish we are targeting?

Cheers

James

Hi Kamikazee,

are you in melbourne atm ?

give me a sms at 04241887988 and we catch up.

Cheers

hi james, eildon is about 2-2.5 hours drive from box hill, we’ll be fishing predominantly for trout. other species that are by catches there are yellowbelly, murray cod (very, very rare to get one there), redfin, roach and carp. can also try for some freshwater crayfish if its open season for them. tackle needed will be just the same as what u would use for bream, bring waders if u have… it’ll be damn cold.. actually freezing cold so warm clothing a must as well. ben should be able to fill u in on more, better still i’ll give u a call after work.

john.. u get leave for sat??? y never call me back [:(!][:(!][:D]???

Hey Rustie, yes i’m in Melb. Good to know we have another fisho here. We’ll catchup sometime soon for sure![8D]

Sunny, sorry boss. Was gonna call u already but u called and my phone was on silent. Hehehe. Anyways, leave or no leave. I’m going fishing!!! Will come up with a really good reason for my boss. hehehe[:D]
