Dolphin @ Dolphin Bank KK

It’s not really a dolphin but more popular called as dorado @ mahi-mahi or belitung as most Malays called it. In my hometown Kelantan, they called it Sarung Golok. They’re not popular as table fish but for some, the taste not bad too if cook properly. But for me, the fish is good for it’s jumping and fighting when hooked up.

Despite unpredictable weather and warning from Meteorology Department, 10 of us together with boat owner, Jack Chong cruising the choppy water from Nov. 30 Nov- Dec 2nd (3D2N trip). Our destination is about 6 hours journey from KK jetty known as Takat 360 by locals here or it’s actually named as Dolphin Bank near Mantanani Island waters. Maybe the Dolphin Bank called for it’s dolphin as we never failed to encounter them everytime we visit the spot.

Our target is actually the sweet lips emperor or landuk as there are hundreds catched by others a week before. But, only few landed this time. I myself landed 3 of them range from 3-6kg. The fish can grow up to 8-10kgs and very good for table fish. Although we failed to achived our target, some of us have fun hooking other species like the dorados, amberjacks and varities of fishes as we fished from 50-125m depth.

This fish is why we ignore the warning from Meteorology Dept but only few caught.

The biggest amberjack for this trip. Too bad I only bring smaller jigs this time. The current was too strong to throw 250-300g jigs. Normally during Nov-Dec the amberjacks grown up. Reports from other boats landed plenty of them range from 8-16kg.

Rosy Jobfish - many of them and they share the habitat with the amberjacks. This Ah Chai claimed his weight is 40kg. [:D]

At first I thought my line entangled with others as I can’t lift up my rod while I lock the drag of my Saltiga Z30. The fun begins when the fish pull out the line from the spool and eventually jump in front of us. Hehehe..

Yes, setujuuuuuuu… masak steam chit sim pan memang tiada tandingannya bro. Nanti bro datang ngan Uncle Thomas or sape-sape, kita pergi pancing banyak-banyak. [:D] BTW, this caranation trout not only has good eating quality but the fighting is not bad too. Heard that mejor have broke his rod while fight the fish in KK few years back.

For your standard, the weather should more than ok. [:D] Trip was good but it should've been better if everybody use spreader instead of apollo rigs for bottom fishing. The apollo was pain in the ass when entangled. The loosen drag also cause the fish jump and run all over the place cause heavy traffic. The current was too heavy for 250-300g jigs that I 've brounght.

Yes U’r right Sir…is that any trip this upcoming weekend? I’m feeling lost at the Tk Darvel…I hate that happened!

Ai ya ! kena racun lagi. Well done ciku Bwan ! Tangan dah gatai, memang mau pergi, tapi takut cuaca tak baik, kena sabar sampai March 2008.
Anyway, the boat you are using, looks good and solidly built with teakwood I presume. Should be very stable for Spratlys . What is the length of the boat ?

Yup, the boat is solidly built. Even in the choppy water, most of us can do the fishing without much problem. I'll ask the owner the size of the boat and the wood used. I already asked him for Spratly trip but for the tournament they're already booked. But, I intend to book for Jun school trip from 1-7 June 2008. The owner already confirm the date availablity. Now, I will start looking for kakis. Maybe after settle the deposit for March trip first.

How unfortunate, this boat will be very good for Spratlys Tournament, can you get another one which is just as good or perhaps better ??
