Last Sunday went with my wife’s family to our friends private pond and had a fun day out. We were told that the pond has quite a variety of fishes like lampam, carp (a few types), tilapia, ketutu, belida, haruan and God knows what else! So we went with an assortment of bait and i brought along my casting set just for fun. (As a gauge, the net is 20" across.)
The first fish was caught by my wife using bread (some sort of carp).
The next was my brother-in-law’s haruan with live bait.
After a while i put away the spinning outfit and for fun started casting a cheap 7g silver spoon with an Okuma Halogen HLG150LX and Daiwa Crossfire 6’6". First cast to the middle, let it sink a bit and started retrieving…wham! Got my first haruan!
Continued casting and suddenly the line just started peeling off..tightened down and strike! Managed to land this guy.
Cast again and would you know it…another hit! Let it run for a bit before reeling it in and to my surprise it was this!
All in all it was a fun day and I finally broke my baitcasting duck. We’ll be back there soon for more

Put it this way. having Haruans in her pond is not conducive for the other fishes. We are merely helping her rid off the haruans to provide a more balance ecosystem.
