final part

sorry for the long wait for this part.

basically, once u have completed part 2, the lure is good to go. this part serves as additional info for those who want to decorate the lures with ‘skin’.

aluminium foil:
best is to get alum foil with an adhesive backing. u can buy them in rolls, sort of like a roll of masking tape of any other tape, from the hardware store. if u can’t, then u can try this method. using kitchen alum foil(for baking) coupled with double-sided tape. effect is not as nice as the adhesive alum tape.

cut a portion of alum foil and back it up with D/S tape:

attach it to the portion that needs foiling. here i choose only to foil the head.

using a smooth, rounded edge of my carving knife, i rub it against the lure to get a smooth and clean adhesion to the lure.

trim extras, leaving the foil behind:

here, i chose to use holographic tape instead of foil for the rest of the body. method is similar as foiling, but thickness of the decal does play a part. choose a holographic paper that is thin and stretchable or u might get crumpled edges.

alternatively, u can foil the whole lure, and then carve scales onto the lure with a blade.

when u are done with all the details, give it a final coat of epoxy to ‘equalize’ the whole lure with the same thickness. this is bcoz after putting on the foils and such, there will be some thickness difference. the epoxy will level the surface of the lure to give a smooth, regular finish. once it’s dry and hard, u may proceed to paint the belly of the lure with white spray paint as shown:

after the white belly paint, let it dry and then seal the whole lure with a final epoxy topcoat and u are good to go.

there are unlimited ways of painting, foiling and designing how u want the lure to be. so go ahead and experiment and share with all of us here. we learn from one another.

i hope this is clear enough for u guys. do post any enquiries here and i’m sure many will help out in ur endeavour in luremaking.

till then, have fun making lures and fishing!

Never knew making lure is so easy. Well atleast it looks easy but when making i am sure it is quiet hard. FT, you have really inspired a lot of angler to start making up their own lure and i am one of them![:D]

Eat,Sleep,Fish! & Fish! & Fish! & Fish!

tembaring,

it’s actually not so difficult to make one, especially like the one FT showed (since he wanna teach us this bunch of novice). but once you’re hooked and with more skill & experience gained, you will try something different and into more details.

Should ask FT to showed his top water lure, nice action and finishing! As for the master Lapala… do I need to say more??
