The furthest I’ve been to fish off Lumut/Pangkor is Pulau Sembilan. I have yet to reach Pulau Jarak from there. I am invited to go there this end of May. Can anyone please give me some clues as to what fish can be caught and types of tackle to use? Thanks

50lb pound rod is more than enuff liao… for afternoon use 50lb leader n 80-100lb at nite…65-80lb main line is sufficient…afternoon i usually use Gamakatsu 17# hook and for nite i use Gamakatsu 22# coz im " kea si n kea su" hahahah.
If ur gang is going mostly for jigging, casting n popping bring along some jigging gear…but i think mostly at nite will target Ang cho n grouper n thats normal…For me every fishing trip i will surely buy myself 1 kg or 2 kembong, some rocket sotong,octopus n heheheh a Tuna fish…of coz la tis is private use one in case cant get fresh sotong at nite…bring along some motion sickness pill just in case…if ur seasick n cant swallow the pill try to bite n suck it with some sweets…is bitter n is the only way it can go into our blood system fast…

Fishing at Pulau Jarak actually you can try a wide varieties of techniques.
You can go trolling for sailfish, GT, barracudas around the island. Even fly
fish for sailfish when they are in season.
You can go jigging for mainly GTs, popping as well, near the pinnacle
You can do deep bottom fishing for snappers, travellies and variety of karang fishes,
you can also do shallow bottom fishing for rabbitfish (plenty near the island).
If you have live baitfish, it is deadly for the numerous barracudas swirling near the
island.
Once when it was strong current, I just do drifting of a Halco lure and caught many
a big-eye trevallies on it.
Further off Pulau Jarak many trenches that contains groupers as well.
So, really, it is very wide subject to talk about fishing at or around Pulau Jarak.
