You might want to try posting this on the chinese fishing forums (myfishing or fisherzone). They have very good ‘Chinese’ connections with the serious anglers in mainland China. hope this helps [;)]

You’ll be in Dongguan ?.. I was there not long ago and the only kind of fishing you can do there is ledgering and pole fishing for carps !.. you can try lakes, rivers and even there is a pay-pond near where I live. Sometimes you do come across lakes or abandon places that fill up with water..

Everyone there does pole fishing for various carps. I was based in Tangxia, Dongguan.

Cheers

Bro fishingboy n mimgmon86,
Thxs 4 the info…I will be based in Dongcheng, Dongguan. I agree that they only do pole fishing. I have been to quite a few payponds, rivers, lakes around the place but none fancy me thus far. In fact, they look at me as if I am a alien when I turned up fishing with a tiny rod n reel[V]. As for them Chinese forum, they are all in Chinese and I cant read or write the lingo hence those websites will not be so fruitful[xx(].

Dun worry my friend - just don’t do what I did.

When in Zhanjiang I politely asked whether it was possible to go fishing and was pleasantly surprised when they said " No Problem " and picked me up at 6.30 am the following morning.

A little bit concerned at their lack of fishing equipment, I nevertheless went along - and soon realized that they were taking me out to the fish cages to catch fish with a hand held net ![:o)]

Again, not to worry - we will look after you when you decide to come home. Have a good time over there. [:)]

Ouh ! at least uve done fishing then..im sure you’ll be just fine there. If you’re looking at highly rated sportfish like Mandarin fish and the likes on lures..i dont think Dongguan is the place to be fishing those kinda sportfish..eheheh Likewise you’ve gotta know that people in China fishes to support family and to put food on the table daily. Fish as source of protein is the highest in the food chain for ppl there.

Enjoy yourself there as much as I did knowing the local and experiencing their lifestyle at their eye-level ! Its truly amazing and reminds you how comfortable your life is and what to cherish for

Mike, youre based in China ?..which part

Not based there lah … frequent visits to family " roots " for the past 12 years.

Mainly in the Guandong area, Zhanjiang, Dzenlong, Xinyi, and sometimes Beijing once every blue moon.[:)]

Lovely !..ive yet to visit my family ‘roots’ in Shandong !..hmmm

No worries. Your best source to useful information are the Chinese forums…

Ming - if we both wanted to travel from our " hometowns " to fish in Mongolia, you would already comparatively be half way there !

Sorry, know nothing about the area - but would strongly recommend you to try to make a trip before everything changes beyond redemption.

My kids seem to think that we all came from a country as modern as Singapore ![:D][:D][:D]

hi..ya…

Dongguan is full of all types of fish if you have the correct bait. Just flash your red coloured RenMenBi and all those goldfishes will run to you.

Mike,
Yes looking fwd to that, just that need to pull dad to get all of us there…it be a great to see them  again !..Likewise its been changing and catching up with the lifestyle…is no longer the traditional stuff u see 10-15 years ago…

EK,
You only think of goldfishes, red renmenbi and being a goldfish man ‘Kam Yue Lou’ !..ahahhaa

once an angler, always an angler

the real ‘Kum Yue Lou’ is the other Wong. Give him another month and he can be your personal guide to all of Dongguan aquariums, infact he may already know them all.

Are these next door to the fish ball joints, and and on the way to the banana plantations ?

Our mothers must have warned all of us about those - strictly no fishing allowed.[:D][:D][:D]

sir, banana or .. papaya?
jes’ checkin

Dunno - never been there before [^]

Wei…if that DOM - EK Wong were to visit me in Dongguan…I will take him to the most exclusive and expensive “Kam Yue Kong” that I can find…making sure this “Kam Yue Kong” is filled with beer and not water[}:)][:p][;)]
In the meantime, I will try to source out as many “real” fishing places there as possible. I think this will be quite a difficult task as what mingmon said…they fish for food…thus far…all the places I went were “hopeless”

**Even a fish could stay out of trouble if it would just learn to keep its mouth shut.

well beer in China is cheaper than mineral water, that would be a logical idea.

there are a few pay-ponds in Guangzhou that I had tried, but then there their priced catch is a curut-sized haruan. Most fishes are a variety of 3inch lampam or foot-long carp. Most if not all anglers were pole fishing.

btw, fishing equipment, other than the common pole and float, is not cheap. Those unwanted spinning reel sold from the bin in most fishing shops here are highly prized in China. You may know that China produces millions of hard-lures and tonnes of soft plastics but the locals hardly even recognise them let alone knowing how or wanting to use them. The few shops I had been to there do not sell artificial baits at all.

[purple][size=2][b]In fact, fishing equipments other than poles and floats are rarity and hard to come by. Whenever I go “fishing” in Dongguan, my equipments are always being googled by the locals although what I brought along from Malaysia were el-cheapos.

RK…visit me in Dongguan…I sponsor all the LD you can drink[8D]…but you pay for mineral water[;)]
