Lonewolf…
Try Malim Nawar/Kota Baru or Sungai Galah.
Location :
Target Fish : P.B, toman, jelawat, tongsan, rohu, haruan, Kalui & udang galah.
You can lure fishing for toman, haruan, P.B & jelawat if you are lucky. Bottom / bait fishing for others. I’ve caught kilo plus P.B, juvie haruan & toman here. Never tried bottom/bait fish tho, but did see others caught jelawat, tongsan & kalui.
Target Fish : Toman, haruan, baung, sebarau, belida, lampam, kalui, udang galah.
I’ve tried both lure fishing & bait fishing here. My personal record was a 6 kg toman using live bait & kilo plus sebarau on lure. You can get baung, belida, lampam & kalui using prawn or seluang. Personally witnessed someone landed spotted featherback of about 3 kgs using seluang.
This is my favorite spot for sebarau as it is not a target for the locals that frequent there & the numbers are still good. My best catch was 5 sebbies within 1 hour ranging from 400 gm to 800 gms. This place is also unique because the river & the mining pond are connected at some places & you can do river fishing & pond fishing at the same time.
Target Fish : Juvie P.B, haruan, jelawat, patin, lampam, tongsan.
The Pengkalan Industrial area are dotted with several ex mining pond from small to medium in size. This is my training ground for lure casting & quickie fishing because it is only 5 minutes from my house. Used to be teeming with variety of fish species but nowadays rather quiet. Make a few eye browse a couple of months back when a 10 kg plus patin was landed & featured in Rod & Line Freshwater Contest.
I frequent this place when I have the itch to fish & time was a factor. In my humble opinion, I think a few of the pond is perfect for fly fishing as it has nice shallow flats & drop off combination.
That’s all I can think of for now. Hope it will helps.
bigbait,
how far the distance of Sungai Galah to Malim Nawar?
wanted to try sebarau fishing as well here.
thanks for the info,
However am not familiar with the places mentioned above & may get lost on the way to the fishing loacation.
I would prefer to tag along if you are going fishing this weekend.

rorytate…
Actually this pond was featured in Rod & Line some times ago under Weekender Fishing Series by Faiz Karim. I like to go there bcoz it is not that far from my house ( about 40 min ), easily acces & convenient, as you can park your car, open the door & cast your lure straight away… heh.. heh.. sounds too good to be true init… of course the effect of public exposure can be awful, but the pond still got something to offer. Just went there 2 weeks ago, caught a couple of juvie toman on popper & the best part is I personally witnessed 2-3 school of juvie toman on frenzy… & of late I haven’t caught any PB’s bigger than my palm. The toman population seems to dominate this pond over the PB’s.
Well, that’s not an answer to your Q’s I think… the general direction is if you are fron KL, exit the Gopeng toll plaza, turn left at the junction & after about 1.5 km you will see a signboard on the right that direct you to Kota Baru / Lawan Kuda. Turn right at the traffic light junction & just follow the road until you reach a bridge across a railway. The pond is situated about another 1 km further on the left. There’s 2 entry to the pond, 1 is at the sharp bend before a small bridge and one after the overhead transmission line… most of the time I enter from the 1st entrance…
Hope that will help you… good luck..
Thank you bro Big Bait,
Will page you if i’m around the corner ![]()

asbeztos & Xman…
Are you guys from Ipoh?.. If yes then we can meet one day & plan a fishing trip together…
Other than those places mentioned, I also frequent Sungai Dinding in Lumut for estuary fishing. Usually we (most of the time 3 person ) would rent a boat & spent up to 36 hours fishing, going up & down the river. Most of our catches are golden snapper, sembilang, grouper, gerut2, stingray & gelama. However I haven’t caught any barramundi or MJ here yet.
Bigbait,
Me busy, mum in law just have eye opertion, need my wife to take care for a while. Cancel my trip to penang to fish… ipoh ?? only short fishing trip 2-3 hrs just to wet line only, prefer to baitcasting.. less mess with fish dough…
Am staying near Jaya Jusco..
