Lucky Pete with his price catch.
Jin with his price catch
Me with other people price catch…booooo hoooooooo
Calvin with his price catch
Total haul.
Thanks, foo.
Long time did’nt see these “tua mau” ang choh come in.
The one I’m holding is 6.7kg, while Ah Jin is holding a 6.5kg specimen.
Not to mention the freight train monster that took half the line from my AVET EX-30
on sunset drag like it is made of tofu, before breaking my 100lb braid, when I was
about to chop the line with a knife.
Penang fishing still got some surprise to be had after all.

Nice catches Foo
Got 8 more pcs of ang choh in my cooler, already bled and gutted, so, not so photogenic.
Last time it took me a year to figure out how to land the giant grouper at that same spot on a Tiagra 50:

But last trip freight train, I think I would need a 80- or 130-class reel.
Really the strength and speed is of another quantum level. My Avet EX-30
was smoking hot after that encounter as line is spilling out at Sunset drag.
Anybody got a Tiagra 80 I can borrow, until I figure out how to
land that freight train [:D]?

Thanks Brudder Ken for the compliment…[:p] as i told u those fish that im holding is not mine [;)][;)]…
Pete even if u found someone who is willing to borrow u a Tiagra 80 it might not be a freight train anymore and it might be a bullet train by then [:0].
U mean the grouper was hook on the same spot we fish??? Wow…
Hey Guys, congrats for the awesome
catches.
It would be more pleasant drooling
at those nice fishes & reading the
catch report without scrolling left
and right. Can’t you all reduce the
image size to 640x480 or 320x240
to fit the screen ???
No offense meant.

Pete i like the way u gut those fish, even my wife praise the way u gutted it and she say thanks to u bro…
Actually whenever i gut fish the hardest part is to get rid of the oily white lining on its stomach…how do u remove it so skillfully?
Any tips??
foo bro,
Normally what I do upon landing the fish:
- Bleed the fish, this can be done by cutting the membrane connecting
the gills to the body.
Don’t whack the head of thrashing fish like barracuda, it is messy and
you spoil one of the best part of the fish, the head.
Barracuda head is extremely good for make soup with salted vege,
or curry.
Just let it calm down, and cut its “throat” (membrane connecting the gills),
using a long fillet knife and it will expire quickly.
A thrashing barracuda expires quickly, even if you don’t cut it. But the
idea of bleeding is to do it while its blood is pumping.
-
After the fish expired, you cut from the anus all the way up to its
“throat” -
Then separate the gills by cutting the remaining membrane and
cut the point where the gills join to the mouth. -
Holding the gills, cut the connection to the roof of its throat
-
You can pull the whole innards out now. Make sure the part that
join to the anus is completedly removed, some people even cut some
additional flesh from there, as this would be a smelly part on some fish. -
Pull the white lining away with the hands, it is a bit greasy, but
remove whatever you can.
This will expose 2 lines of dark vein running along the bone all the way
to the “throat”
You must remove these 2 dark vein, as it is the smelly part.
- Currently, I find the best way to remove the 2 dark vein, is by using
a stiff plastic brush.
Basically just scrub all the blood clot or any loose bits away,
using the abundant sea water to clean.
- When you are back home, just chop the fish into manageable size and freeze
immediately. Don’t wash with freshwater as it will affect the taste in storage.
Just wash them when you prepare to cook.
That’s it, and I believe you have one of the best eating barracuda ever [;-)]
Works for almost all other species as well, although some people prefer
you don’t bleed a tenggiri (probably they used to that smell already).

Guys, some pix from our trip yesterday:

Lucky uncle caught 15kg grouper (on the floor)

EngKo with borrowed 15kg grouper, he caught a 6.5kg specimen as well.

My haul for the trip, 10 Golden Snapper and 1 Mangrove Jack, total weight around 33kg.
Biggest Ang choh is 5.2kg, but average size is up.
No groupers, but can’t complain [:)]

Congratulation for the catches Pete Nice Photos thanks for the sharing , Very tempting for a shot at this spot lol
Great fishing Pete, very nice angchoh !!!

Wow same spot same bait??? Is much more than our previous trip…congrats…
foo bro,
Ya, was using mantis quite effectively, and reserving my sotong
bullet for when the frenzy starts. Frenzy came twice that night
and I managed to convert almost all my sotong bullet to ang choh.
The 15kg grouper by the uncle also on sotong.
Don’t wanna jinx it, but fish should be coming in around Penang lately,
has been on 3 consecutive trip with ang choh frenzy. Previously was
many consecutive trip sleeping or twiddling the thumb waiting for fish
to bite…ha..ha..
