Fishing in Tg Harapan (Klang)

Hi, i would like to know what bait is best to use and where is the best spot? seems so hard to catch anything there .

Best bait is a hard one, best time of the tide is also difficult!

Best bait for most fish is live prawn or sotong. If you just want gelama and duri, stick to Pum-Pun.

If you want Queenfish, live Balanak and fish in the deeper water toward the left of Tanjung Harapan toward the light-house near the Orang Asli houses where you buy the bait. Be warned though, if the tide is strong, be prepared to get stuck in the rocks. The best time for these is an hour before high tide through to an hour after, so save the balanak for this time and use prawn, sotong and Pum-Pun.

There have also been a lot of fish caught near the display sailing boat - at low tide on live prawn! This is a sandy area, so you are ok with a 2 hook one up/one down rig, but if you’re on the rocks, keep the rig simple with a 3 or 4 foot trace, a loop for the sinker and a loop for the shock-leader to tie on to. If you are not using a shock leader, then make sure you are using a strong main line for the rocks!!

For most fishing there, fish on a rising tide with a good height to the water, but be prepared to lose some gear as the tide is strong.

Check out the My biggest grouper thread for info too! If you see one of the locals catching fish, don’t be afraid to go and see what rig/hook size/bait they used.

BTW, now is a good time, but more fish are caught in the night than the day. Check out http://easytide.ukho.gov.uk/EasyTide/EasyTide/ShowPrediction.aspx?PortID=4686&PredictionLength=7

Hey idpearl! Thx alot for your info. I’ve read ur post before and tempted me to do some fishing there.. I went there on Sunday but didnt manage to catch anything as the current keeps on pushing my line to 1 side near to rocky area ..

You need a long rod and a heavy sinker to stay away from the rocks. When you reel in, reel in as fast as you can and don’t stop! When I caught the grouper, the tide was small, but still runs fast!

If you want to be able to fish without getting so many snags, then stick to the area of the yacht, or pay RM3 to fish off the pier type structure of the orang asli houses. There are no rocks there and you can still use a 2 hook rig if you want. If you use a 2 hook rig, you can use Pum Pun on one hook and prawn or sotong on the other to increase your chances of a fish!

One thing about hook sizes…For the bigger fish, use a 1/0 or even a 2/0 hook with a live balanak or sotong head or shredded sotong body. BUT, you can still catch a big fish on a small hook, so if you want to have a better chance of catching more fish, use a small hook like a size 12 with your chosen bait.

One other thing, you can either be patient and stay in the same spot, or, if there are no bites at all after an hour, pack up and move to a different spot.

To increase your chances even further, how far you can cast can also make a difference. If you can cast 100m+, it doesn’t mean that you are guaranteed to catch fish, but it does mean that you can cover more sea, from far out to close in, to try and find that magic spot where the fish happens to be swimming in search of food!

The fish are there, you’ve just got to try different ways to get them - and have a bit of luck on your side!! It will be a few weeks before I can go back there again, but when I do, I’ll drop you a line.

If you happen to be down there and see a guy who can cast for miles, go and talk to him and see how he does it!!

Thx a million for your help idpearl. Would love to fish with u one day [:D] . I should be going there again this weekend to try my luck again! .

Hey Mat Salleh, last sat night i nearly broke u and Deris record…
mebbe the one that snap my 40lb braid is 3kg+ and i really think i was pari..coz it doesnt struggled to escape…

what ever James, i recommended u to use live prawn, smaller size would be better (RM5 for 20pcs)if do trying to play around… long snood 5ft + baitholder hook size 1/0 + 150gm “gripsinker”,mebbe “80%” will increase your chances to cacth something…

Ah, but Edi, you didn’t land yours!! He he!!

James, Leadhunters is the guy who can cast for miles - and he’s taking over my spot in Klang until I get back!!

Hey Leadhunter thx for the info [:)]. Where to get those live prawns?? Would love to fish with u guys some day . Will be going back there this sunday ! Hope i will have better luck this time around..

Go past the display boat (yacht) so it is on your right. Keep going for about 0.5Km and just around the corner you will see a wooden/metal solid fence on your right, in front of which are signs advertising Pum Pun, Balanak, etc. These are the orang asli houses where you buy the bait. The one with the orange cone and board by the road-side is the favourite one.

Hi Ian,

How is Singapore man?

Met up with any of the Singaporean surfcasters yet?

MSC

Hi Aznaff,

No time yet![:(] All my rods are still in KL, but when I come back in a couple of weeks, I’ll bring one or two of them back here to have some fun! I will of course have to go back to see if there are any fish left in Klang though!! [:D]

Ian

Next trip for me will be Saturday 1st Sept. High tide is around 8:30pm and its a 4 meter tide, so the water will be fast when I get there around 2pm! Not the best, but its the only time I’ll be able to make it for another month! Hope you guys have left some fish for me!! Also hope Kepong Tackle has some more sinkers!!![:D]

Ian,

Anyone joining you?

MSC

I hope Edi “the tuka king” will! Are you free Aznaff, or are you watching another fantastical musical production? If not, casting on Sunday?

The spot already closed from any fishing activities…last week a fisherman was attacked by big shark…donno where it came from, but they believe because of the change of global temperature, the shark is running out of it usuall direction and attention…a lot of big big shark…they eat all the fish around Klang area, and that’s why no fish left there except shark…so to catch it, best bait is human flesh…exspecially belong from Mat Salleh (gila one would be the best coz it’s stink - more scent)…and the white colour of Mat Salleh skin attracted the shark 400 time more than ordinary person…the best flesh part is,only man have it…cut it,then attached to baitholder hook size 4/0,then thread it with cotton…but let the “TOP” part unthreaded…to let the scent out…

waahhaaahaaaa…

I get there this Friday - Merdeka Day! Fishing on Saturday afternoon - about 3pm until 10pm? Drag myself out of bed on Sunday to try and cast further than I ever have before, makan and then do a bit of shopping before driving back to Singapore on Sunday evening!! Tammy’s lucky though - she’s going back to KL tomorrow. Maybe she should do my job and I’ll have more time for fishing!!!

Ian,

Ok cool, Sunday’s casting is my ritual…fishing on Saturday, I’ll speak to the guys and confirm later.
