Fishing in Ulu Muda Dam, Kedah.

I am planing to go fishing in Ulu Muda Dam, 16th, 17th and 18th Dec.
Staying at Earthlodge chalet, Kuala Labua.

I plan to target toman and sebarau and will bring my usual gear and lures used in previous trips to Temenggor and Kenyir.

I appreciate it if anyone can give any info on other species of fish to expect and advise to catch them.

I practice CnR…guides at Earthlodge will make sure of that…

Thanks in advance for any advise given.

The main targets in Muda Dam is Haruan and you can get sebaraus in Muda River where you be staying. The is no Toman in Muda Dam.

Thanks for the info, Lapala. So,out with the toman lures…

Any recommended lures for the haruans there? I am not too fond to handle live frogs…

Thanks in advance for any advise given.

What about Berkley Realistix Power Jerkshad, Power Tube SP…many more you can refer to the Haruan Section.

Rapala DT, Vibebait, Spinnerbaits, soft plastic, Heavy S/bait laced with SP grub tail… (I won’t suggest you the discontinued items ;-)), anything that can go down and reach bottom. Muda Haruans are not that fond of surface lures, unless you are fishing the banks in the early dawn or dead of night.

Or you can ask uncle Lapala to lend his OVERKILL lures, suites it right for Nami Green Kelisa…only if you happen to found it…

Hi Maguro,Lapala and Rapala Sangkut,

Thanks for the info…you guys are DA MAN!!

Time to stockup those lures that you mention.

Lock and load, ready to roll…ooppss! Not a good thing to say, when you are sitting on a boat.

Hi Hyena ranch,
That recommended 5" plastic with a small bullet head weight before the EWG hook is good for Toman, Haruan and Peacock Bass. If other lures failed this could be your reviving bet.

Hi Maguro,
Mucho grandios for the tip.

Texas style SP rig…hhmmm…me likey very much[:D]

Cheap, easy to make, snag free and won’t burn a hole in the pocket if you lose it to the snags.

Some tackle shop is going to get lucky this weekend. Can’t wait to lay my loving hands on those candies…

Hi brother,
Few days after you mentioned it, I went to Kepong Tackles to look for the Berkley Realistix Power Jerkshad. All sold out.
Before that I saw the sp bait you had rigged up. The hook was well hidden. It was like a real fish. Couldnt believe my eyes! I want to learn the finer details from you, down to the size of hooks and the point of securing the sp to the hook too. It was a perfect sp rig.

The Berkley Realistix Jerkshad, wouldn’t be surprise if it is out of stock always. Phil & Pure Fishing over to you now.

Bro Piscator,
Almost all SP except those board body specimens can be weedlessly rigged with worm or EWG hook. This is an advantage over the hard bodied plug when fishing around weedy and snaggy water.
You are welcome to see my SP pouch the next trip we go fishing.
