dear friends.
Hope you can clarify the below.
does fishing line have an expiry date (applys for both braid and mono).
and what is the proper way to store you extra line for future use?
Line have problem, so using this old thread for discussion.
Why my el-cheapo Tomman braided line can breake easily with my bare hand? I thought even for cheap braid, it should at least not to break like that correct?
FYI, I have using it for Tambun Pla Buk, and hookup at least 4 fish which I think more than 10kg.. The line just 2 months old..
I have tie a shock leader of 20lb too, but when I pull, it break!!!. I search a lot, but no clue.
Is the structure of the line weaken? Or poor quality? I heard some sifu say, line digging in the spool can spoil the condition as well.. Is it true?
I had bad experience with Tomman line also. First time use break 3 times in a row. Not a single fish landed and immediately switch line.
I thought it was cheap thing no good, good thing not cheap ? I tried Sufix Performance (yellow colour) but also same issue. Thought it could be my rod’s ring guide so I change rod and test. Same also. Complain to shop and only then the boss told me he heard the yellow colour Performance got many complaint but not with other colour. I also puzzled. What dont he tell me before I buy…I thought he could have sold me some old old stock
But I have avoided the 2 brand since, and also the shop. Have read same complaint on Fireline and Powerpro too. But I have been using Powerpro since without breaking once
“A good angler needs the ability to foretell the best location to fish, the best time to fish, the best bait, and the best technic. And to have the ability afterwards to explain why there is no hook-up”
Yes I heard that too. Even have guide for indentifying counterfeit
Varivas is very good lines. Although I have not tried it, but to me, it is the best money can buy
I think confidence with your fishing tackle is important to hook up fish. Get the fishing tackle you feel most comfortable. Even if it is more expensive, I think it is well worth it. Just my 2 sen worth lah [:D]

Bro, thanks alot for the identification method.. And your right. We need to have confident in our tackle to hook up fish.. I ask my firend about varivas casting line. Blue colur. 200m around RM 135.. He also told me that the line perform very very well. Worth the extra money.. Will try to find it..
but i feel u, what a scary prospect indeed to buy braid like those from Tomman echeloen. Sometimes it’s not the component not good. I;ve tried cheap braid once, from TCE dunno what brand edi everything cheap cheap tat time more broke than now so try lo. Not bad, very good in fact, that prompt me to get a second spool few months later but it was crap beyond all reason, it was braking all the time. The QC just vacuums monkey balls for some, while others the material might have been stole off from sewing machine, who knows lol??? from then on i never bought any lower end cheap braid till now and glad of that
and am quite proud to actually use and test most readily available higher than low end braid(spider wire[all sort], powerpro[all colour], tuffline, sufix herculine, etc etc) and some higher ends one(stren, sufix performance, fireline braid, some japanese dunno what name, YGK etc etc), do note tat high and higher end difference for me is from the price not the actual performance. All 15lb or below, mostly 5lb, 6lb, 8lb, 10lb. And i’ve almost totally quit using braid and switch to fuse and never looked back…
However, recently acquired a pack of fireline braid 20lb cheap online. And found that its performance was superb, great castability and strength… now i’m lost hehe. Do note that i never use any braid of more than 15lb, and imho 20lb above braid do not apply to my testimonies above.
So for now, i use fuse for lighter application 2-8lb max. and braid for heavier use 20lb up.

Haiyo, if you bo lui, who else got lui.. Hahahahha..
I think varivas about RM 135 still okla.. 200m leh.. can fit 2 baotcaster liau.. Since casting rarely use all 100m, we can divide into half lo.. Best of all, that line proven by many angler.. Although the price is high, worth the value..
And sumore, your exotict scorpion, morrum and conquest still very high price when you buy ma.. if spend a little bit more on line, much secure lo.. just like insurance la, got nice house and car, but insurance buy ciput only, hehehehe.. You know what I mean la…
for that kinda money i can get easily 300yard of fireline fuse liau, n still got change to buy another Rapala too!!!
haha n my reel usually have 150yard of line at least one, dunno why feel more secure;). Especially when a pla buk or some sea monster decides to come along n give u a lil workout

bro, no point trying out the cheap stuff, unfortunate but true
hindsight wisdom better than none at all, or worse, stubborn [:p]
rm135 for 200m of varivas is pretty good
reputedly does not lose its colour even when used in the briny deep
unable to find (but then again, i’m lazy to go into KL) varivas PE1 or PE 0.8
ditto for the YGK lines
currently trying out the TORAY PE 0.8
waiting for the FINS 15lb to get a proper work out
intend to keep some maxima mono on standby - reputedly good
my spiderwire stealth camo’s good but need to keep an eye on frays
stinge not and trim off line otherwise it could snap under pressure
looking for line that won’t fray
Haha.. Bro TJS, I think fireline at your side is popular, but here, not so.. Many claim the line break easily… Who knows right..
Bro AC, ya, Wilson let me know that varivas is very good.. For now, YGK is his choice.. Maybe my self will go to find him and go to tackle shop and find out some la..
Interesting - I also have been using the Spiderwire Camo Braid 15 lb which I bought 2 years ago - RM 85 for 300 yards.
I normally use about 100 meters, and reverse when it looks a bit past it’s time - but the stuff on my reel has now been in use for 2 years, still looks good, and feels like it can go on for another few years !
Is this a fluke shot or what ? At the moment I just thank my lucky stars.[:D]
it’s not popular here as well, tat’s y can get it cheap heheheh… i admit there’re some spoiled batch, personnally seen it before too but luckily still havent use one tat’s bad yet… i probably had own tens of kilometre of those and still no problem yet. the strength is unbelieveable
actually the truth is, for my type of fishing its hard to let go of my fireline… i can easily use it for 6 months, mine is still going strong after that, even without reversing it to use a second time. not only fireline fuse, sufix performance fuse too! Fuse is tough. For braid of less than 15lb i cant even use for more than 2 months, not only it breaks often after sometime, it got way too short by the end of second month due to cutting of frayed line. And it’s getting expensive with all the price increase etc, i rather buy more lures than changing line often and with fuse i can achieve tat.

Fins is great… price a lil on the high side for me but i think its justified for its performance.
Toray no chance to try yet exp hehe
YGK is absolute hopeless for less than 15lb. Beware some are good some are not… but i will never look at the brand anymore, period
Maxima is one of the best mono out there, tat’s y its price on the high side. But it’s very worth it if u r really into mono. That’s some of the mono i did stock up too even tho i uses braid only for now, i believe there’s situation tat mono gonna comes in handy in the future

congrats for using tat long… i think i uses 8lb and 10lb tat’s y… the 15lb ultracast i have still going strong(but i never put it to hard and continuous use), only use for bottom fishing n yea i dont do bottom also hahahha so very seldom use but it’s still going good after 3 years heheheh
the code red i use was removed after 2 months, din get a chance to reverse spool it cos by the time its too short already. 10lb stealth i use also same story, a lil more than 2 months tho… about the same with 10lb powerpro
tat was extensive casting(lure) for at least 5 times a week… on semi wild environment, occasionally wild and clear environment usage.
