"Fishy Tales" from abroad

Yesterday was my “spinnerbait day”. it’s the first time i tried spinnerbaits on pikes and the outcome was not bad at all. I was initially fishing at the shallows for pikes using a custom ordered 1/4 spinnerbait but was harrased by a few small fishes as they kept on biting the spinnerbaits skirts and blades except for the hook. Immediattely thought that they could be perch so i changed to a micro yo-zuri minnow but in the end got hit by a small pike. eventually i lost the lure as my line was at it’s teeth, as the pike almost swallowed the whole lure. Later, it was no turning back, 3 kilo size pikes in less than half and hour, all caught on a florescent greet custom ordered 1/4 spinnerbait from Huntercreek baits! [:D]

First fish on Friday evening. A kilo size pike from the lilypads just under the bridge.

Second kilo size fish. Taken from the same spot.

Third and near 2kg size pike taken at the shallows. Took me sometime to figure out how to land this fish as i was fishing on a platform more than 1-metre above the water using 8lb line. As the platform was to high for me to reach the fish, so, no choice but had to go down to the water to “catch” it. took about 2 mins to fight as this fish is rather powerful!

Got it finally [:D]

Longkang tales to be continued…

My fishing site @ http://fishingboy.multiply.com/

Went back to the same canal to fish again today. The weather is abit warm today. Therefore, the fishes are not as active as in the cold. however, i still manage to land 5 fishes. Lost 3 good size ones as they probably did not bite the hook of the spinnerbait. Two good size ones were landed from a longkang. To my suprise, even a small perch went for my 1/4OZ spinnerbait.

First pike of the evening.

My first spinnerbait caught perch.

A good size pike from a small longkang

A near 2kg size pike from a small longkang. Took some time to land and to lip the fish.

good report fishingboy,

“Think BIG” “CATCH and CURRY :P”

Good catch and report..look like the spinnerbait is very deadly for Pike.
Spinnerbait is proven to be very effective for haruan here…

Please keep your report and pictures coming..really an eye openner for all of us here in Malaysia

Cheers

BE A SPORTFISHERMAN USE LURES!!!
GOOD THINGS COME TO THOSE WHO WAIT!!!

Just an update of fishing today. Not as good as yesterday’s. Fishing is rather slow. All the fishes were hooked up within half and hour. but after that, everything slowed down. there were quite a few bites but none were landed. The lily pads near the brige where i landed quite a few on friday only produced some bited but not solid hookup.

Lily pads near the bridge. A productive spot but not today.

First pike of the evening.

A good size and a good fighter. tipped the scale at 1.5kg

A small one from lily pads.

Till next week then …[:D]

fishingboy bro,

Good looking Pike you got there, looks quite like the barracudas,
which incidentally was called Sea Pike.

Does’nt it starts get chilly over there in UK ?

Pete bro,
The pike sure looks like cudas. even their teeth look like cudas. It’s not that cold now. Still can make it under two layers of t-shirt (one long sleeve and one short sleeve), without a jacket, as i can stand the cold quite well [:D]. One tip to tell whether it’s cold or not from a picture is the vegitation. if you see greens, that is an indication that sunlight is still aplenty and the temperature is still not low [:D].

Ming bro,
Yup, the fishing conditions here are near perfect. very clean and undisturbed [:D]. Malaysians have got alot to learn from countries, for example Australia, Canada, UK, etc. when it comes to environmental conservation.

Don’t bother about pike fishing because Australia (read my reply to your posting in one of the weipa fishing report) is way better than most places in the world. Barra, MJ, Blackbass, Tarpons, Ladyfish, etc. it’s basically a brackish water heaven! [:D] (if you happen to be a brackish water freak like me [;)])

Looks like fun Fishingboy! Glad to see you taking advantage of all the opportunities available. “Jack” Pike are a fantastic light tackle sport fish and those fish are in fine condition. Amazing how the same techniques work on different fish across the globe. The waterways look prestine as well. Nice to see. I’m curious Fishingboy, would you say your rod and line license fee was money well spent? Does the condition of the waterways you fish justify the small cost of a rod and line license and perhaps the day ticket fee?

The spots you fished look similar to a spot I fished near the airport this weekend. The difference was the nice little longkang over here in Malaysia was filled with rubbish, had nets strung across it, the banks were covered in litter, the walls of the bridges covered in graffiti and there was barbed wire strung everywhere to keep out “fishermen” from the bits the authorities didn’t want spoiling. Can’t say I blame them for wanting to keep “fishermen” out.

Incidentally, one of your shots shows a drink can floating in the water behind you. All too common here, that’s a rare sight in the UK. It still happens of course, but generally other anglers police themselves pretty well. Anglers who discard litter on the bankside would be reminded quite forcibly by other anglers not to do so and anyone who does risks both a fine and ejection from the clubs waters. Worlds apart from the situation here in Malaysia.

nice pics and catches bro..

congrats..

Marlin bro,
Yup. the same spinnerbait technique that works fine on the Toman and haruan (and other local species) work fine form pike and perch. About the fishing/rod license of £24/year, I would say that even though it’s abit to high a price, but it’s certainly money well spend to fish in clean, un-polluted, well managed, undisturbed, un-harrassed waters. tin cans and other litter here are rare sight but there’s always a few littebugs every now and then who tend to prefer not to use the bin. generally, comparing the waterways/rivers/canals here to M’sia. i would rate 99%/100% for the one here in the UK where i fish. Rivers like the one you mentioned in M’sia are a common sight and can be widely found in M’sia. thanks to the general public (anglers alike) who doesn’t have the slightest clue on environmental issues. I’ve been fishing in A.K last month while i was back. The ammount of litter non-biodegradable (fishing lure packaging, food containers, ciggy boxes, plastic bags, etc.) at the vacinity of the “hut” is enough to fill a few dumpsters. It’s sad to see that the country which i grew up is facing a never ending “litter culture”. Why can’t Malaysia and Malaysian emulate others when it comes to loving and protecting the environment? [:(]

My fishing site @ http://fishingboy.multiply.com/

I sincerely hope this litter, self centered n kiasu culture of the malaysians are a passing phase since our country is developing. Our country seems to be developing faster infrastructurely rather than the mentality of the people. So lets hope the mentality catches up fast enough to keep with the other development!

Earth is NOT inherited from our ancestors BUT borrowed from our children!

This is another example how clean is the water way in oversea country. This place is actually right in the middle of down town and the bridge is connecting 2 border cities between US and Canada. No garbage or whatsoever, water is crystal clear. Even Atlantic salmon can thrive here through stocking and natural reproduction.

The gentlemen’s art - fly fishing. Those look like two handed fly rods, as used in Scotland.

Does not look like flyfishing outfit to me. Looks more like “centerpin” fishing outfit (i might be wrong) [:D]

My fishing site @ http://fishingboy.multiply.com/

It’s float fishing outfit using centerpin reel (evolved from fly fishing). Target species are Steelhead, native rainbow trout, Brown trout, Chinook salmon, Coho salmon, Atlantic salmon and Pink salmon during Fall time, I’m the guy with a net at the back.[:D]
