I posted some months back that I wanted to buy a car topper boat. I went to look at the bass raider an others. After much thoughts and simplifying my decision I end up deciding on Etamax 12 footer ..but then now I am undecided on V hull or Flat Hull . What is the advantage on each of the above. I am strictly a fresh water guy and more on small lake..anything the size of Kenyir or Belum I will use the operating boatman’s boat.
My understanding is
V hull +points
Cut water better when travelling
doesn’t move when wind blow
pts rocks more when stand up fishing
front platform smaller
heavier..(?)
Flat hull + points
Good for stand up fishing
pts slightes wave make the boat slap
wind blow the boat move like inflatable
So bros , please give me some pointers for me to decide..thanks.

bro..am using 12’ bujuk…my buddy using 10’…a customer of mine just bought 12’ v hull car topper…all Etamax - best & value for money
whats the different…weight! easily loaded the 12’ bujuk on my hilux with just 2 person…only 50kg…the 12’ v hull is around 60kg+…the shape makes it very difficult to carry & felt much3 heavier..dont think 2 person can haul it up my hilux, even if can, will break your back or definitely not fun, esp after a hard days fishing.
Those plus points are relating to your boat or punt only. They are correct. But when you want to use a craft in the water, it is the type of water to determine which design of craft should perform best. So make sure where you want to go first before choosing your boat.
For flowing and choppy water and to travel far and relatively faster, a v hull is the choice.
For stability and short distance in calm water, then get the punt - it is a flat hull design.
Of course both designs can travel in all kinds of water if you disregard their efficiency and your travelling comfort.
Or look for the hybrid, which has a pointed bow with a flat stern. This boat is a compromise and should do well for our pond, river, estuarine, and dams – it is something like my Linder Sportsman 355 aluminium boat. But I cannot carry it, both myself and my car.
The Etamax 12 footer with pointed bow is rather heavy. If that is the boat I saw at the Explorer Marine. It is a good choice if you can carry the weight by yourself physically and with your transport. It should be able to withstand lots of knocking about.
I recommend you to get a Bujuk 10 for calm water. And a Etamax 12 for the rough. And do one thing at a time.
Oakinn bro, I take that you are pretty satisfied with the flat hull? What engine do you put onto? I think most of my boat (meaning on MY boat) will be on calm fresh water. Anything rougher I should be using rental boats. So look like narrowing towards flat hull.

local lakes such as Kenyir and Banding might turn into nasty choppy water on strong winds. In such situation, I dun want to be in a punt… I just love my Express 120…

Hi Wahoo, please share your view on the weight, the ease to carry on this express 120. I saw the spec that it is 5ft wide. not many cars can carry it? BTW what is the price you bought?
