Xman…if you are a beginner…it would be a mistake to start off with a 4 wt.
To learn to flycast, it would be better to start off with a 6wt or even 7 with floating line. Once your casting gets better, then only should you move down to lower line weight.
Bro Tiger,
sure will drop by at SP to meet you up. will bring along my video cam together to shoot the training session. hehehe.
can treat you with ice coffee too.
Bro Razor,
thanks for sharing Dr.No h/p #. am looking for flyfishing DVD as well to ease my learning on fly.
in fact the Pirate Man also advise me to call Dr.No for some fly fishing gear recommendation.
Bro tangyp,
thanks for your advise. that mean that i need to get at least 2 flyfishing gears for the start.
observed that most of the fly reels are slightly heavier than baitcaster. BUT it will give more fishing thrill.

Bro Xman…You either get a 6 OR 7 wt. not both.
However, nce you start, you won’t just stop at 1. Just ask any of the fishos that kena the fly fishing poison. [:D]
One more bit of advise…once you start off with even, stick with even. Same with going odd. For instance, if you start with a 6 wt. then your next fly rods should be 2, 4, 8, 10wt. and so on.
This is because there’s really not much difference in 1wt. between rods. This is so you don’t waste your money buying rods that feel practically the same…

Fly Fishing is what fish are for!
how very true! btw, i’m using 4wt and 7wt setup now…
can u give advice to choose a fly rod?right now i have 2 choice…both are wt6…first is redington crosswater & second one is tfo professional series…what are the pro’s & cons of these two rods?
Bro tangyp,
i learn something new today from you. probably i would start with wt6 first. love those even number.
thanks for sharing and advise, brother.
I believe the crosswater is probably a slightly lighter rod than the tfo pro. However, more importantly is the feel you get whilst casting. The other thing to consider is the rod’s warranty. The crosswater only comes with 1 year warranty whereas the tfo pro comes with UNLIMITED life time warranty. I’ve broken the tip of my tfo pro 2 wt and one email was all that was needed to get a replacement from TFO. Of course, I had to pay for the freight which is usd 35.

ikanbulan,
i think OM has answered ur question. the crosswater is a nice beginner rod to start with. no complaints there for the price u’re paying for. i still have mine… can’t comment much on TFO coz i don have one yet. but if the budget allows, why not? remember, fly fishing is 90% not about the fishing, it’s the experience, the environment and the pleasure!

No problem, bro. Love spreading a little bit of poison around… [:D]
tq for the info…anyway i think i need to go to tackle box myself to have a look at those rods…i think i’m going for both…but not at the same time la…because i have ultegra 56 and tica veteran 78 reel…as i read from this thread..we should stick to odd numbers or even numbers…maybe i’ll go for a wt5 & wt 7 setup…(odd number)
