Hi lone fish,

There are no fly tying books specifically for Mlaysian fishes at the moment. I would suggest you get a general book on flytying to learn the techniques and materials involved. There are many you can buy from the better local bookshops. There are other sources to learn flytying, viz. the flytying section in MFN itself, Rod n Line, Youtube … just google up “flytying” and you’ll have hours of learning and enjoyment.

Once you’ve learnt the basics, all you’ll need is a handfull of patterns for our Malaysian fishing environment … whether saltwater, hill streams or lakes and dams. Good luck on your new journey.

One book on tying that is a must for me is: The Fly Tier’s Benchside Reference (Although a bit expensive, it’s worth every penny.)
ISBN: 1571881263
Author(s): Ted Leeson, Jim Schollmeyer
Pages: 444
Publisher: Frank Amato Publications
Binding: Hardcover
It doesn’t teach you how to tie any patterns but shows you a very comprehensive step by step on all the tying methods. With this book as reference, you can tie any fly patterns you see. See this review for little bit more info: http://www.hatchesmagazine.com/review/43
