The Malaysian angling scene is easy to the fraud. Be careful!
Recently there is a fraud Pancing’s representative using fake letters (with fake signature) from the Editor of the magazine asking for sponsorship, in term of fishing tackles for his fishing trip.
This culprit, known name as Wan, is skinny, tall and dark skin is also equipped with sophisticated camera and promised to write articles for Pancing magazine and also would include the tackle shop names as well. He seemed to know the tackle industry very well, especially Shimano products. An incident happened to the owner of Joran Bagus Tackle Shop in Kota Tinggi Johore. En. Azmi lost fishing equipment worth RM4,000 plus to this person.
On the other hand my reporter Adlizam Yasin had been offered a very cheap Abu Revo Inshore from a guy from JB also named Wan, who claimed that the item belonged to his recently closed fishing club. He claimed he used to work as a Shimano Engineer in Singapore. Further investigated by us revealed that Shimano Singapore only handles sales and no Malay engineer worked there. Therefore, we also doubt the originality of the Revo.
Another case happened in Kenyir to the Green Boat House, handled by the famous tekong Ibrahim. A person claiming from Pancing Magazine asked for free or discount fishing trip. Same modus of operandi: promise to write article for Pancing. After the trip, news about the person was good as gone.
I’m afraid there are more cases that had happened before, which were never reported to us.
We only allowed our part-time writers as listed to be our representatives. They are:

Any sponsorship for these said name must go through Pancing’s office and not directly to them.
So to all tackles distributors, tackle shops, fishing operators, hotels, chalets, fishing ponds, fishing charters, please be informed and be extra careful.
