I don’t know what happened to the thread “collection of big snakehead assaults” created by Jassmen as I couldn’t post a reply. Anyway, just to wish everyone out there.."Happy CNY and may it be a prosperous year ahead for everyone in terms of wealth, health and fishing!!Here’s adding a few pictures to the collection.
Pics were taken on the 21st of Feb at Bersia. Enjoy!!!
An angry mother, a satisfied angler
Taken on live keli after spotting her fries
Here are some pictures we took at different times of the day.
Taken in the morning
Check out the crystal mirror like view of the water
Approaching sunset
Approaching back to the jetty, our boatman spotted a school of toman fry playing around near a stump. We headed straight to it hoping for the last action of the day. And guess what, mama was around. Here’s some action for you guys…
The first pull
After an intense 5 mins, the first sight of the mama
Final dive
A final kiss goodbye
Back to your kids
Possibly the most exciting fishing trip in Bersia.
Well, i usually use keli for toman these size. Luring has never been successful for me especially targeting toman as big as this. But hell ya, the fight was intense…
Thats a good catch there but just wondering whats the weight and lenght of that specimen.I’m also curious if all that Toman photos up here are the same specimen or different…The weather there looks very supportive for fishing… Never rain ah bro? It was raining like hell at Air Ganda during evenings…spoiled most of my evening sessions there… cheers!!
The pictures shown is the same fish. It’s a solid 8 kgs. The weather was actually too hot and there was not a scent of a downpour that day. It was raining the few days before as told by the boatman.
Thats some awesome catch..at least we still knw there are mommas in there as once sniper use to post up huge tomans like those and thats the average sizes of toman ranging from 4 kgs onwards i guess..
Hats off to u too bro for practising CnR..well done
I’d say the hot weather is the best when huntin for toman in bersia or in air ganda…tomans in resevoirs loves the super hot weather and thats when they take their fries for a stroll..always bear in mind to release the mom ASAP after unhooking and release it nearby its fries too..
Thanks. Actually Im still in awe with the fish and what I’ve got to say is, Im certain we will see more fish that size if more people are aware of CnR. If you guys read the Star last Saturday, there was a page on CnR under the angling section. Short article but straight to the point.
All in all, I’m very hopeful that in the distant future, with proper education and public awareness, we may still size beautiful fishes like that.
Thanks for the clarification man …must say that its hard to come by that size of Mama Toman now days in our waters…Hats of for practicing CNR…just to share with you my catches in Air ganda during CNY Holidays…http://redhotanglers.blog78.fc2.com/blog-entry-15.html#more
Cheers!!
Congrats, very nice catch you got there, that boatman
Karim knows the place very well, he can always find
you a place to land some toman, happy to know you
released them.
Nice photos you have there. I haven’t been to Air Ganda but Ive been told toman are in abundance over there except that they are slightly to the smaller sizes. But the ones you snapped were pretty decent. Just out of curiosity, is Air Ganda in general an easy place to fish?
Thomas,
Thanks. Yeah Im actually happy to release 'em back. Karim is really dependable and one of the best around.
Air Ganda is still my favourite for hunting Tomans..but back in the 90's it was Paradise man...the sizes were bigger and the Tomans there were less sneaky...but due to logging, netting and less CNR , catching a decent size could be a challenge at times nowdays...Yes there are many juvi's there in AG but their grunt is good enough for adrenalin..." they fight hard man"... The reason i keep going there is to get one trophy size at least...according to the boatman ...the record there till today thats caught on a line is a 29lbs Mama on the highway...but sadly the angler took the trophy back ....Saddist!!!
There are many species there besides Toman, like Toman Bunga, Bujuk(its a bonus if u get it), Haruan, Tengalan, Kelabau, Baung , Belida and maybe other species that i have not come across so far but the best season to fish is now till the next rainy season hits north Perak…I’m planning a trip up there this May…so if u interested just drop me a mail budd..
Bro Myle,
wahhh what a nice and big toman u have congrat…
Anyway where is this place located and how to get there hope u can help… after see ur
picture liow hand very gatal liow…hehehe
