Hi Vince[:D], this is good. I am located in JB and have noticed that most of the tackle shops (reference made based on availability at major tackle shops), if not all, are running low or non at all in Skitter Pop 9 (SP9). I have also checked with a few friends in KL and was informed of the same situation. Can you advise why this is happening? One thing for sure, the Skitter Pop 9 is very popular for toman, with the right technique applied.
Besides that, there is also the question of color availability. Why is it that some colors are not available in Malaysia (referring to the SP9)? A few example like the Hot Clown (HCL), Chartreuse Mackerel (CM), Fire Tiger (FT), SGFR, etc. The colors mentioned are available in other countries like the US, Europe and Japan, just to name a few, from what I have seen especially in eBay. These colors would be great to entice the toman to take a bite. Not only the toman, but sebarau too. Any info on this?
Vince[:D], now for the golden question. Why in the world did Rapala discontinued the Glass Fat Rap 7 (let’s not get into the reason for the balsa Fat Rap)? Another popular lure for toman and sebarau hehehe[:D].
takbleh tahan eh jay… good 4 ya & everyone bro… lemme do the honours… why in da world did rapala discontinue the balsa FR eh? ha there… most prolly coz it’s cheaper wif injection moulding technique, but in any case the retail aint dat cheap… so?
Greetings and thank you for your kind feedback.[:)]
Yes, at this moment, there is a low stock issue as the demand for SP9 is more that what we catered for and please accept my apologies. This issue is affecting most of the area.
For the colour issue, those colours found in ebay is not a true reflection of the existing colours and Europe, Japan has their own colour range. Since 2008, Hot Clown, FireTiger, Chartreuse Mack (CM) are no longer in the catalogue, I am sorry about that [:(]
However, as part of Rapala VMC Asia in serving Asia market better, we will be bringing these good and popular colours back again. Please continue to support us and give us more feedback.
I am really delighted to see this special topic and we already informed there are lots of rapala die hard fans here ready to throw their ideas and others are dying to share their experiences working with rapala lures[:D]
mr fred, since you were saying that Europe and Japan are having their own colour range,is it possible that we will be having our own set of colours too as to tailor to our local target species like the snakehead and sebarau for freshwater game?i cant deny that most of the available colour for rapala are provenly effective ever since it was introduced here in malaysia.but i personally think it will be more fun and exciting to play around with our own customized colours let say colour that imitates our local baitfish like terbul, lampam, etc.this i think can be applied to shadrap model considering to its profile.my humble suggestion is base on the recent trend in international lure making where they tried to go a as realistic as they could in developing a fishing lure.mostly they will produce colours of their indigenous prey fish. If the Japanese can fish with their Shadrap Ayu, I believe one day we Malaysian can proudly cast our Shadrap “Terbul” to catch the great toman of air ganda[:D][:D]

Wow… thanks everyone for their comments and feedback, I will try my best to answer all in this post [:D]
Hi Jay, the Fat Rap was discontinued in 2004 and then Glass Fat Rap (GFR) replaced it. At that time, “glass finishing” was the in thing and soon after, GFR was discontinued. This was due to commercial reason [:(]
Hi binjai, GFR replaced the FR not due to cheaper production, if that was the reason, then Rapala would have replaced all balsa lures like Shad Rap, Original, Countdown etc. Plastic moulding is a cheaper production method but that does not equal to cheaper lures, if not those Japanese lures like Luckycraft, Jackson, Ima should be selling cheaper than our balsa lures right? [:D] The reason why we replaced it with the GFR is stated as my first reply to Jay.
Hi Rohu, yes, Rapala Asia is definitely going to support our Asean market. We are currently running a lure colouring contest with Pancing and closing date is end April. This is a sign that we are willing to come out with our very own colours for our waters. Thank you for your feedback, perhaps one day, we will see a lampam pattern in the Shad Rap or X Rap model [:D]
Hi Jifat, Rattlin Fat Rap is discontinued and yes it is now a collector item [:D] We are happy that it is so precious now cos that indicate Rapala lures are of good quality and well loved by many. Sometimes, we discontinued certain models or colours is purely due to commercial reason.
P/S - love your signature with those catches esp. the 3rd one, is that a Mangrove Jack? I love lutjanids[:)]

Hi Fred[:D], now this is a very good news hehehe[:D]. Need to start saving money and get ready to tah pau all these colors hehehe[:D][:p][}:)]. As for the shortage issue, apologies is not necessary lah Bro. Just wondering why is this happening. Even them tomans are keeping them lure as souvenirs hehehe[:D][xx(].
I believe that it would be advantageous to Rapala if it could get feedbacks from all the retailers on the availability of all Rapala lures, say maybe once a month. By doing this, a study on the popularity level of each and every one of Rapala lures can be done. Hence, having necessary stock, based on popularity, available at any time. Just a suggestion[:D][;)].

Thank you for your wonderful suggestions. Yes, we are working closely with the retailers of the colours and will improve on our stocking for those popular ones. Every year, some new colours will arrive and some old ones discontinued but we will do our best to get those good colours for our Asian market.
Maybe I should start a thread to gather feedback from the supporters [:D]

Good to see you here in MFN, finally Rapala has representation in a malaysian forum.
Rapala has been my staple lure diet for a very very long time and it takes up about 80% of my arsenal.
Just wondering, I noticed that there has not been much selection in the market in the past 6 months, colours and models have been very very limited in KL every since Bob from Tightlines retired and closed its doors… it was a sad day.
Are there any shops in KL that has a wide range of your lures?
No pain no gain, dont try dont know… muahahahahaha
Thanks. We are of pleasure to be of any help to this forum here.
I have not personally visited the KL shops yet but based on my record, shops like Loon Fatt, Ocean Sea, Sport Line, Yong Trading should have a good colletion.
We welcome any feedback as in what kind of model or colour that you guys will want to see or having problem finding them.

Care to share what lures did you used to catch that MJ? That colour is very productive and popular with Miri anglers.
I must follow you go fishing for them one day [:D]
that lure is a halco sorcerer 125 gold..
in my experience, this gold color always attracting monster mj,
keep losing the particular lure color to big mjs n yet still buying new one as stock…
emmnn, rapala should think about producing gold color lures right?

Yes, totally agreed that Gold is a good colour for our fishing scene here. Definitely we will look into it as we do have gold colour but not as chrome as Halco. We will want to come out something better than what we have now.
Bro mingmon, please email me at fred.goh@rapala-asiapacific.com We will like to replace those broken bib lures for you. We will need your details over the email[:)]
