I’m new to this forum. Been using live bait since I was intro to fishing by dad. Decided to try out lure fishing, but is quite costly. Wanted to try my hand at lure making. This was the result. Made from left over materials. Nails, cable tie, rubber band, nylon strings, cigarette box, wiring, swivel & hook.
Tried it at Tasik Biru, Kundang, Selangor. It wobbles in water & has shining effect when pulling in. Haven’t landed a catch yet.
Comments & suggestions plz, I know it looks ugly but who knows…it might just work.
i am so curious bout the design of this lure…it was based on inline spinner but erm…
you can always get better material from tackle shop nearby…
i would suggest you to read more article on lure making in order to improve ur lure making skill…
such as durability, weight, depth , action etc…
you got the idea and you need a better way to access ur idea and make it in a much better way…
Hi Mun, thanks for the comments. Any idea where to begin reading? I did some basic research on the net before creating this DIY Lure of mine but didn’t know it resembles ‘Inline Spinner’. Basically, the round disc is to reflect light & makes shinning effect in water. The ‘tail’ bushing is to make it wobble as if like ‘bleeding panic fish swimming’. I don’t know how much it weights, but can be cast out to 20 or 25 meters with proper technique (not raw power).
I’m staying in Shah Alam area. Know of any tackle shops selling lure making materials?
Hi bro hennessy, most of the lure maker started to make lure that they want to use, to tackle their target fish. So i guess you did too. You can try focus on the species of interest and study on types of lure that appeal to them. Next step is to choose ur favourite types of lure (you’ll need some experience in using what kind of lure to tackle the specific species)or you can surf the web and get the idea. The types of lure (as i could remember), are such as spoon, spinner bait, swimbait, crankbait, vibration bait, pencil, popper, propeller etc. Then you can start looking for info regarding on the making of the lure.
p.s : sorry bro…i dont familiar with shah alam, so i cant help you bout the tackle shop around that area.
Here are a couple of links that should get you started looking for lure hardware supplies. The first one is wholesalers, but they should be able to tell you where the tackleshops are.
Muns advice is good. Search this site, the net and tackle shops, find what it is that you would like to make. Then post a pic and someone will tell you how to get started.
This i also my latest diy.made based on Halco relic dog trolling lure.
Among the finish lure.the upper lure is the original halco lure.

finally MASTER LAPALA are back!!! really miss your posting on MFN. Really appreciate your knowledge and tutorial on lure making, you inspired many lure maker (INCLUDING ME!!). Talking about Malaysian design lure, well, creativity is the most important factor. But at this moment, my lure making skill was very restricted due to my narrow knowledge on the range of lure design…(will read more older issues of KINGFISHER magazine about ur lure making)…hahaha… A Kelantanese lure maker has make some local minnow lure for barramundi, and started to commercialize his lure. We all are happy to see that too…
hope that I can start to design a genuine lure and start to work on it in the next school holiday…

I just found a label on a packet of snaps. I bought a load of stuff from this place, they were very helpful and knowledgable. They had a bargain bin with some big name lures in also:
Sea Tackle SDN. BHD. Lot 2, jalan 241 section 51A, 46100 Petaling Jaya.
Mun, just keep at it and you’ll get where you want to be. (Don’t blame me when the bills for tools and other accessories piles up). I am not a masterlar, just another lure maker who spent too much $$ on this hobby haha.
How about showing us some of this Kelantanese lure makers stuff, it’s great to see some homegrown stuff hitting the market.

Guna fast dry ke slow dry?saya biasa guna slow dry jer.kalau rajin, pusinkan lure tu supaya epoksi tu sekata di seluruh badan gewang.
