To all keen haruan anglers,
I find it harder, almost impossible to find an easily assessable decent haruan pond these days. Somehow these ponds are either heavily invaded or being eliminated due to current development.
It is really sad that you have to venture deeper into the secondary or even primary forest to enjoy your haruan sport fishing - which means you could not bring your younger kids along with you. So, it would be difficult to pass your fishing passion to your next generation.
With this in mind, I predict that haruan sport fishing will not survive in the near future in Malaysia! Natural death.

Actually haruan is one of the ‘robust’ species. It can survive in almost everywhere. I saw a men pulled haruan in longkang near Jambatan Satok which almost imposible for haruan to grow due to polluted water. I once catching haruan (with rod) in longkang 1 feet wide an 1 1/2 feet deep very near to housing estate. More than 30 years i fishing for haruan in places near human population yet still catching haruan. If we try to find nice pristine water that near our home and have easy access to go to and for free, may be that sort of place will be very hard to find (at least in Selangor). But if we want to try to ‘casual place’, like i described above may be you still can get decent haruan. Don’t be surprise fishing haruan at drain/parit like along Kuala Selangor - Tg Karang road will produce a huge haruan and I already saw the proof of it. Try night fishing if you want extra adventure on those places. Just don’t go fishing alone even that place is along main road. Safety first. I still remember a restaurant owner at Kapar catch monster haruan (not with rod and reel)in longkang in front of TNB Quaters at Kapar.

it’s comes to me to think like that too.. but haruan is a survival fish..
i even see this species in singapore and japan in magazine..
so the drastic development not really kill this species,
what kill them is human..
a greedy angler
a poison by a farmer
just my opinion..
…
So, what can we do to help restore the damages done???
