Thanks for the invite Yong. Fishing for bones sounds great but I think you will be in for a shock with my scottish accent lah! Maybe you will need subtitles.

Falcon…I am used to the rain and I prefer it to snow…lol

Malaysia does not snow.
Many might not understand your english.
Here is malaysian english so you may not understand ours.

Nevermind. At least have a safe trip here and welcome to Malaysia.

I have flyfished with an american,a canadian,a german, two australians, one new zealander,a lithuanian who works in ireland, one dog,one baby bird , sometimes with totally wild monkeys (kiwis love to watch them),and so far we all had no problems communicating. No worries there mate, lah, maybe just a wee bit aye?

the ‘slang’, u mean? i guess everywhere in the world has the same problem. like us talking malay to a Kelantanese malay. the basic langauage is still malay, but the ‘slang’ sometimes a bit hard to understand.

not to worry bro Zeolite, since english is our international language, i dont think we will have problems communicating. i m working in Oil n gas industry too, but on project n installation project basis. most of the time working wit kiwis (very big sized people n very good divers too), brits, scotish, aussies, irish, n south africans. even we malaysian are well known to be very flexible in communication. (i used to work with a japanese who doesnt know how to speak english at all, and yet work is done perfectly - imagine communicating using hand sign/expression n a piece of paper)

u r most welcome here in malaysia [8D], if u wish to fly fish big ‘patins’ and pacu,we are pleased to bring u along. just be prepared for your greatest moment of your fly fishing experience.[}:)]

Ya Iheard the fish are nice. If the water is clean , I think its ok. But of course we prefer saltwaterfish. The freshwater fish is quite smelly.

Mainly because of the muddy taste in fresh water species. River fish are great eating fish but very rare :frowning: (but then again, we do try to preserve what we have by practicing CnR to the max)

ya you are right
the muddy taste
and the smell
you can eat, but i wont
i don wanna get hepatitis
but i advice you
you keep the fish for like three days in a tank before you eat it
so that the fish will spit out the dirt
but you have to change the water every 6 hours

but i think it should be all right

Guys. I know there are going to be misunderstandings but that is just part of the fun of going somewhere new. lol
I worked in Brunei for a bit and met plenty of malaysian guys who were happy go lucky and great fun. They loved their fishing too and had many meals in the rig freezer. Loading up the chopper to get back there were many frozen fish stuck in the hold.
At this moment I am on a drillship in the North Atlantic and you can’t believe how much I am looking forward to coming and meeting toman, sebaru, pacu and of course, you guys.

zeolite, when you reach here, just ring me.
I will try to adjust with the other people.

Ya… I will bring you party in the jungle with the ‘Asli’ girl ( our aborigine )… and let the Tomman break your rod…

As I am tossed about on these big North Atlantic waves I am thinking about retirement too. its a pity it is 20 years away!
Also I know that just over the horizon from here is some of the best trout and sea-trout fishing in the world. Season is over now I suppose.

the big toman
get ready 60 lb withstandable rod and line!

Well…
Just been told that my transfer is cancelled! I am devastated! I was so looking forward to meeting you guys and your fish. I was supposed to be getting on a plane for KL in a couple of weeks.
Thank you for your kindness and hospitality guys. I will make it over yet. If you like I will send in some reports of what fishing I do in Scotland and the tackle and flies I use.

Tight lines to you all.

That’s too bad bro. It is ok. You are always welcome here!!! Just book a holiday/fishing trip here and I am sure all the brothers here will be more than happy to go fishing with you!!!

Yes… anytime… when you are planning a trip to Malaysia, just let us know… anytime… bro

Well at least you can try a holiday to Malaysia after all the information you got! I highly can recommend that after own experiences. The people are so nice and friendly and the food is absolutely stunning hihihihihihi. And… time has changed a lot since my last visit… there indeed are fly fishers now and as you know now, several of them are really willing to help you to catch some of those for European very rare species!!!

Hans

There 3 main species of fish that all fisherman in Malaysia would like to get… they are the most clever… our Red Mahseer call Kelah… the Ultimate warrior which will fight till the last breath…The Hampala..which we call Sebarau… and the fearless and brutal Tomman…

If a Fly Fisherman that manage to hook all these 3 up in a same trip… he must have hit the Jackpot of his life… The grand slam or the hall of fame…
