Help !!! Anyone seen these fish before ???

Dear fellow forumers,

Have anyone seen or knew what fish is this ??? I’m totally blank.. never seen this fish before.. would appreciate those who can help me identify the species of this fish… thanks in advance

My guess is “Blackspot Tuskfish” based on dental records? Haha…
Hard to tell by just those two pics you posted, especially since I’ve not caught this species before…

Dear minnow..

Thanks for the comment.. I double check photos on “Blackspot Tuskfish”.. it almost looks similar or alike.. I probably would guess that it is.. but there’s something still puzzling on my head.. most of the photos I saw online about “blackspot tuskfish” I notice that they don’t have a lower teeth like this fish of mine.. LOL.. perhaps they do.. haihz.. still scratching my head here.. probably need to seek more opinion.. Hahaha.. Thanks a lot by the way.. really appreciated it a lot

Cheers

Parrot fish. I can recognise the teeth and the color. You got the fish in Penyabong, Johor?

IMHO it is the Parrot Fish. I landed one few years back at PD.

Shakespeare & Apek Cina…

Parrot fish don’t have teeth like that lar.. Parrot fish has smaller mouth compare to this fish.. and judging from the teeth and similarity.. I think minnow is pretty right.. it looks more of a “blackspot tuskfish” … the sad part is that I’ve just got to know this species (thanks to minnow) if not it will be so much easier to identify it as I just need to see if there’s a black spot on the base of the dorsal fin.. hmm.. if it has that then it’s pretty much confirmed that it is a “blackspot tuskfish” then.. here’s a sample of photo I’ve got from my all day long searching..

Shakespeare : the sample photo you gave written “tuskfish”.. so I guess it is confirmed already..

Photos provided are just samples and not myself nor anyone who I’ve known :

So I guess the mysterious looking fish has been confirmed as “Blackspot Tuskfish” which is also a kind (species) of parrot fish and also known as Tsing Yi [Cantonese]

Thanks to everyone who contributed their time and knowledge here.. very much appreciated

Melzhang Bro, You already done your homework, you are right. Thanks for sharing.

Wow wow wow… but actually the PD blackspot tusk fish lack of stamina.

Angkoli? I never heard that phrase before in Perak, Selangor & KL

Funny that I never see blackspot tusk fish at wet markets & hypemarkets.

I caught this fish about 20 years ago in NZ. was surf-casting off a 50-foot cliff. Damn scary man! Small one, about slightly longer than my hand. It was hooked for so long that it had swallowed the hook, leaving the line n sinker outside. the surf was so strong that I didn’t feel the bite. You can find this fish some times at Central Supermarket’s fresh food zone at the lobby of the building (location is behind Parkson’s , along Jalan Mega Mendung, OUG. Two-storey green colored building right behind an elevated pedestrian crossing cum bus-stop cum taxi stand.)

A friend brought me to try famous Muar Asam fish head… they used this fish, really good tasting fish!
I’ve always known this fish as Angkoli , dont know about the other names.

Last week went to Banting morning market and the Hokkien speaking fish trader yell out “ANGKOLI” but it was not the same fish.

Kelvin & Slips, Thanks for the info.. Now I am salivating for the dish

The blackspot tuskfish and the baldchin groper look alike. Just different coloration.
