HIGH END PRODUCT FOR SALWATER SPINNING REEL

Daiwa Saltiga SATG6500H VS Shimano STL20000SW Stella SW </font id=“size5”></font id=“red”>

Hello, any of you here ever tested these reels? In terms of performance & maintenance, which one is worthy for your cash?

Once, I am planning to buy Saltiga. But today, I read a professional complete review from a website that in overall Stella SW is way better than Saltiga.

Now I am in dilemma. Maybe I need to wait another 5 - 6 years for a new high end Daiwa vs Shimano reel?

Your opinion is much appreciated.</font id=“size3”>

p/s-I saw Michael Meng managed to land 70kg Dogtooth tuna with his jigging technique using SATG6500H in Sirip dvd. Wondering if the professional review I read is bias to Stella?

Mr.Barracuda…PLEASE DO NOT TAX MY FISH

Stella all the way… altho both are good stuff but i believe stella is no doubt one of the best if not the best there is

i would have gotten one if i have the money n needs for it, unfortunately nope

it’s cheap. when i say cheap, look at their top end tat’s stella, but retails for less than any daiwa highest end. wat i like bout stella is it’s no nonsense. No need bling to sell, no need extra upgrade to bring up the price further, champion out of the box(i am poor, cannot justify adding more nice bling to make my reel nicer)

Tips: pls do not read bout ppl sponsored by company to do your research, always always look at independent site or ppl who wrote their review

i said this purely by reading reviews from independent sources. No personnal experience, perhaps others who fortunate enough to use both could detail further.

i believe both could get the job done, but for some reason i will just stick to stella… no point getting a reel which u know will get out-blinged in a couple of months time with just a change of handle materials… tat’s my take

I only have 13 years of fishing experience, so must beri tunjuk ajar!

Thanks for your opinion.

However a famous tackle shop owner here in my place not recommended me to buy Stella. The spool is so easily corrode when directly/indirectly exposed to saltwater. So does the ball bearings. Simply put - Stella is going hard in maintenance.

Also, my ex-colleague who bought Stella last time simply told me “better go for Daiwa”. Maybe he had some unpleasant history with his Stella.

Now the choice is getting harder.

Mr.Barracuda…PLEASE DO NOT TAX MY FISH

haha i think maintenance is a necessity lah… i believe without service even deep sea level wind reels will corrode, matter of time only

and to spent so much on a reel, i don’t think maintenance is going to be a problem right?

Btw shop-owner or any business for the matter… they would wanna sell stuff with higher profit margine than a lower one. But in this sense, i think both reel earn more or less same profit lah, but i could be wrong hehe, not a tackle shop owner myself lol. The best way to find out is go out fishing with the fella n see wat he uses during the trip most of the time, then tat will roughly give u the answer already

how bout go straight to the dark side by buying both??? hahahahah then put ur review here, tat would be cool!!!

I agree with TJS on the choice of the Stella.

I swear by this man. Best reviews I’ve come across are from his articles. Read here: http://www.alanhawk.com/reviews/stlsw.html

Make your own assumption after this

now that is wot i call a write-up
great stuff [:D]

makes me love the stella FD even more but some features are found in the higher range only as Hawk sez.

Hawk and Tani are different individuals in their own respective right [8D]

[:0][:0][:0][:0][:0] Sorrryyyy… I do feel myself getting what-so-call temporary blindness.. hahahahaha…

Acheong,
It’s the SW, not FD!

Been following hawk on stripersonline for quite a while now. I like his own reviews unlike TTs reviews which I think are mostly marketing in nature. There are certain things that he explains using his engineering background to help lay people like us understand why certain stuff is better, such as cold-forged gears are better than machined gears etc, areas thatmanufacturers don’t give us the bottomline. He digs deep to uncover myths… Now that’s how a review should be written.

After reading the review on the 2010 saltiga, I abandoned the idea of getting one myself. Totally not worth my hard earned money after seeing all the cut-cost measures that were used on the reel.

Daiwa should take a good look at themselves, but at the end of the day, sales figures rule over appreciation by a select few… That is the reality.

For the discerning angler, dig further [:D]

Thank you for responding guys.

Well, atm I don’t think I need to have this high end Stella / Saltiga. Better save some money now & within 5 years, can buy brand new model & I hope both Daiwa & Shimano come out with a CLOSE FIGHT.[:D]

aiyarrrkk .. i just broadsided me self … LOLOLOLOL
aye it is, FT bro .. sorry .. my bad
i saw the spool and straightaway thought of the FD model … sighh

must have been a shock for saltiga owners to find out the rotor is weak .. one would feel quite ripped off. based on hawk’s observations, it’s a drag (design) shortcoming that’s causing the rotor failure - am i reading it correctly?

OT: how would the dogfight or banax GT/GTW fare then? is the cost of a saltiga similar to an accurate twinspin or van staal? or would that be like apples vs oranges?

as a true enthusiast…

saltiga 2011 with zaion material is a no-no for heavy duty. unless u got too much money to splurge on a few 3k reel, its your choice. if u notice under load at the bailarm, it can touch the spool. wtf!! lousy engineering!!! same goes for the new certate 2010. i m sticking to the older models fyi.

just stick to stella/twinpower =)
but stella also got anti-reverse bearing failures. seen a few happened.

as for jigging, the superior 20k stella does lose power compared to the overhead reels. so best go for overheads. lighter in weight as well.

thats my take on high ends reels. Penn reels also can do the job hahaha

spend more time fishing better

In terms of performance, overhead reel is always better when compared with spinning reel. It just awkward to handle…& you should not be die hard fan of popping technique[:D]

Mr.Barracuda…PLEASE DO NOT TAX MY FISH

dam i happen to be a diehard popping fan too. ever watch “The Legend” by Kozo Okubo?
i can pop with left and right hand now. working on my endurance for big chuggers.

i prefer popping than jigging. simply because jigging is less technical. popping really requires true skills to entice more bites with the damn big stickbait or chugger.

also once u get the gt fighting technique right, its easy to land a biggie. practice makes perfect.
