i am into telescopic rods. wish i can buy the above rod from Shimano but cannot find any shop selling at this moment… maybe not looking enough for it…
you guys can guide me either shops around KL or online stores that have the goods. worst case i settle for Surf Leader 405CX… but casting weights only 130grams compare to 225 grams for the horizon.

we actually share the same likings. For some strange reasons I also fancy telescopic rods as it is easier to transport. I have a big range of multiplier surf rods. It is indeed quite difficult to find a good telescopic rod now days. So the best bet shall be a three piece surf rod like the one u see, the shimano.
anyhow, I am no expert about surf fishing rods. I do collect rods from experts’ advice. As I am more into fishing, i will buy rods that suit my needs.
On more is power, then u will have to experience dry casting to acquire a total comprehension of the sport as well as the synergy between the caster and his tackles (rods, lines, weight to cast). Even then there will be many school of thoughts regarding the matter. But if u have experience it the proper way, then u will at least be able to know ur casting style and that will help u stock ur amour.
I used to blindly buy rods that I think is a beast but cannot leash out its true potential until I learn casting the proper way via distance casting. I didn’t focus much about the distance I could cast out but with the technique I learnt, I can finally tame the beast! Catches has also improved tremendously although sometimes people with shorter rods could give u a cynical smile if their catches are bigger that yours or more bountiful than what u have in ur cooler box. Well, if u r a fisherman, then probably u would be cursing urself spending heaps of money on a handsome tackle supposedly a tackle of a champion. hahaha…but if u r a cool surf caster, u wud definitely would be able to catch a jolly big one from the market hehehehe. Anyhow bro fishing sometimes is a wee bit of technique and lotsa luck.
This is rather lengthy but I do hope it makes sense to u as that is what I thought when I chose surf casting as my hobby. A day out fishing with the love ones is anytime better than sitting in a boat thinking about them and them worrying about u. But it is a matter of preference. No right or wrong answer for that. I will only be dreaming n counting the days to haul a biggie from a beach my family n I enjoy.

same thoughts here. agreed with your last para. to catch no fish while surfcasting when family is around you is much better than to land a marlin from shore (i dunno whether got people having done this or not) while family at home waiting for you…
as for me, family outing and surfcasting always come together… blissful moment Allah given me during this time…
