To all sifu aka taiko of lure making, "LAPALA & harimau api [:D],
i was being told “COG” of the lure will define the sinking timing and action for the lure, and now i was wondering how to get the “center of gravity” for the lure? how much oz tin we need to inserted to the lure body in order to let it sink like those countdown and wander? [:I][:I],sorry if my question kinda confuse,[:I][|)],
sorry, i’m not sifu level hehe, just the usual hobbyist. since the sifus haven’t come in, i start first..
center of gravity ar… is it like you tie a piece of string to a rectangular piece of wood, then suspend the wood in mid air, the string should be movable and when the wood’s left and right side is balanced horizontally by moving the string, the position where the string is is the centre of gravity. is it like that ?
however for making lure like poppers, the weight will be placed near the end. and some other lures may have two or more weights at different locations.
how much weight to use will depend on the type of wood ,size and shape of the lure, and a few other factors. i use trial n err though. Sometimes I observe the internals of translucent colour plastic lures for general idea. although I use wood but maybe same principle.
There is a website, got x-ray photos of commercial lures showing where they place their weights, but i forgotten where..only found this one. http://www.in-depthangling.com/articles/stears_jerkbaits.html
This is not the original site, as i got several other photos from there for observaton. anyone knows the original site pls enlighten. can observe the wooden ones.
Err, actually u would pin the lure to a string, let hang free and mark it, then hang string from another point on lure. The crossing of string marks the COG.
Another way to “see” where the COG of a lure is to spin it. It’ll spin with it’s COG as centre. But this is just a gauge. The COG of a lure is and will be changed/controlled by the weight that you put in. Different types of lure will require different type of weighting and some lures you may not need any weighting at all.
Take for example if you want to make a lure like LC wander, the weight is located as low as possible and split to one in front and one at the back. The position and amount is determined by the positions that will allow the lure to sink horizontally. I like to fine tune mine to sink slightly head down.
To answer your how many oz Q, I’ll have to concur with mcs; it’s all trial and error. With experience you can just guesstimate the amount and location better that’s all.

hye sifu lapala...
i glad dat i've stumbled to this DIY stuffs u guys digging on...so gr8 stuff..atlease i add my hobbies.but theres few questions that i wanna ask u n da guys..
1.when u shaped the wooden lure is it in split portions(like half half of right n left of the body).if not how u drilled the hole n how to do the center wire holder for the center hook.
2.wot sought of wire/cable that u used to hold the hooks n leader..
3.the silver color on the lure…is it just a normal spry paint cover by clear coting..

hi there and welcome. will try to answer on his behalf</font id=“blue”>
1.when u shaped the wooden lure is it in split portions(like half half of right n left of the body).if not how u drilled the hole n how to do the center wire holder for the center hook.
depends, some lures are made in halves while some are one piece. for one piece lures, a midline is drawn from head to tail and then a groove is made on the belly side. the bent wire in then inserted and then the groove sealed with epoxy. other methods include drilling the lure and then screwing in the wire hook hangars.</font id=“blue”>
2.wot sought of wire/cable that u used to hold the hooks n leader..
u can use stainless steel trolling wires(single strand solid wires) from tackleshops…i use size 20, 22, 24. buy the hard wires, not soft wires. use a needle nose plier to bend the wires to the desired shape</font id=“blue”>
3.the silver color on the lure…is it just a normal spry paint cover by clear coting..
which lure???[:D] sorry didn’t get u here…</font id=“blue”>
[:(]thk for attending to my questions…
once again, welcome to luremaking and hope to hear from u again!</font id=“blue”>
