I caught a 120 kati (72 kg) Kerapu Naga

I am in Taiwan when posting this thread.

Last Saturday went to a paypond in Tainan and caught this giant baby.

Weight : 120 Kati (according to pond owner) = 72 kg

That’s a great bargain… compared to a lot malaysian paypond, with tiny or unconsistent catch…

I think it took me around 10 minutes. but…

for two times the giant almost pull me into the pond (my stella is modified the brake to be totally locked. e.g. no main line will be dragging out of the spool), there is no pipe in the pond but the fishing dig some very deep holes themselves. if they swim into these holes it will be almost impossible to bring them out again.

After I land it and took photo. My hand can not stop shaking for more than an hour…I felt totally exhausted and rest for 1 hour before I cast my bait into the pond again…

Rod - Daiwa boat rod, 11 ft, no. 120.
Reel - Shimano Stella 16000 PG
Main Line - Whiplash no.20 (200 lb)
Leader Line - Varivas Mono line, 2 ft long, No. 120 (300 lb)
Hook - Owner No. 32 (3.5 inch long, carbon steel hook).
Bait - Dead Mullet (600 g).
Tatic : bottom fishing. with our special “strike on” device. as shown below:

As you can see, I pull some main line out of the spool and click it in the clip. and put a bell under the main line.

when the fish take the bait the main line will jump off the clip and the bell will drop and “bling”! I hook it up!

We were fishing from 11:00 AM to 5:PM. I got totally 9 bites but only successfully landed two. including this one.

In that paypond there are about 30 giants over 60kg. and the rest 100 + between 30-59 kg.

I think it took only 5 minutes of waiting after I cast the bait into the pond
