I found one book about Freshwater Fishes of North Borneo (or something like that). Does anyone knows if any book on freshwater fishes of Malaysia (maybe Semenanjung Malaysia) is available somewhere? Sometimes going fishing and catching fish (which is always less times than going fishing), it feels strange when we don’t know the fish right?

Try Mohd. Mohsin and Azmi Ambak’s “Freshwater Fishes of Pen. Malaysia”… a bit old but still a good ref…or get hold of Aznir’s (Jungle Bum) “Fishing Forays”…a great read and a good description of the fishes and their malay / english names. Buy one and I’m sure he’ll autograph it for free.[:D]
Mohsin and Ambak’s one have lots or errors on scientific name. The one you have from North Borneo is from Maurice Kottelat. That’s a good one. There is another good one from Kalimantan by Tyson R. Robets and a mekong(?) one from Walter J.Rainboth. These are superb book. You can refer to them since many have same species like ours. Unfortunaely we don’t have one for malaysia that we can be proud off…pity.
I visited the recent AquaFair in KLCC and met with reps from our fisheries (they have a booth there). Asked them about any books on local fishes but the answer was not encouraging. Only books that they have at the booth was the Mahseer: Kings of Rivers (which I already have one) and a book with a collection of materials from a kelah symposium done in 2006 (good reading I would say).
I wonder if Fishing Forays is still available (last saw that at Tacklebox I think).
