One of Important factor for a realistic flies is the right material that I use, here I wish to say THANK YOU again to Pak Amin for bringing me some very useful fly tying material…
Salam, Pak, I know you are coming down again next week… bring us some good material and advise… hehehe…please…
Hi Dron, just yesterday I was having Teh Ais with Pak Amin around Arab Street @ Sg (just behind coho) and i mentioned that there was this guy who could really tie realistic flies… then he told me… Aiyah.. That one my student lar… No wonder !
Anyway, to you Penang fly fishermen, Pak Amin is planning a trip to Penang with Andrew so if you guys are interested, he’ll do a fly tying workshop. Perhaps we can get Dr. No. to do another Pasar Malam SALES in Penang at the same time. What do you guys think?
quote:Originally posted by dron.fly Have not got the chance to try on the Gekco... I was tying it for mainly two species ..Taimen and Toman. Will tie few more and hopefully someone can try it out on our local 'tiger'-Toman, or even big snake head ( haruan )
I believe the size of the Gekco is most concern… 6" long, will most likely need a #10 rod to do the miracle…
Perhaps some ‘Sifu’ can try it out for me… cheer..
Dron,
Taimen is waaaaay beyond my reach but a Toman would be more manageable perhaps. And I’m not holding any “Sifu” post but I really love to try out your Gecko-Fly when I’m going for the Snakeheads in Bersia next month… [;)] [8D]
Pls let me know what rod you are planing to use, so may be I can tie a smaller version for you… would a 4" too long for you…?
Try get the Tomman with Gekco… on a clear pic… so we can have another Malaysian fly confirmed for Tomman, other than the split tail or popper…

Ok, I think 6" would be just nice because I’m planning to use 9WT 9’ graphite rod with at least 40lb tippet without wire leader. If I opt for wire leader, the tippet would be at least 25lb.
Come to think of it, if u don’t mind, maybe u can make another extra 4" for me. I have few slower-actioned fibreglass rods that I want to try out. That’d be awesome… [;)]
Pak is someone I totally respect… like a bapa to me…

I will be more happy if more people are willing to contribute and share their flies pattern…
In oversea, they have flies that called as their pride… how about Malaysian…???
I believe… Buatan Malaysia also as good.. Our flies pattern are as creative as theirs… our flies are not only for our water.. but proven works for theirs too…
So.. I sincerely hope all those creative fly tier could share their creativeness and idea.. for flies that one day will call as our own PRIDE…
No problem… I will tie both 4" and 6" for you… when is your actual date.. and how do I pass it to you… could I pass it to Dr.No ( Nick Ooi ) at Tackle box…? you collect from him..
