I was browsing online for trips one day and came across a 2d 1n lure fishing trip in Sitiawan near Lumut. Being deeply poisoned by lure fishing, the catch report and picturs of trophy size fishes made me drool but there was one catch. It was in a pond. I’m not a very pond person but after being battered by local coastline kosongs and totally deprived of any fish-human interaction, I decided to take the plunge and put my name down. Well there were alot of aspects of the trip and i suppose you only want the fishy bits so i’m gonna skip the awesome food and etc. Action was practically non stop as long as your lure was in the water. I had the chance to collect teeth marks on all my lures and gave them veteranship if they survived the ordeal. Really put my tackle to the test. Now i won’t get laughed at by my friends who say my gear so expensive but catch no fish. We caught GTs, Groupers, Siakaps, Jenahaks, and Cobias.
We hardly had any time to take pictures because unhooking the fish with bardless hooks takes long enough. All i did was fight fish and re rig my setup due to bust off. I remembered re rigging every 5 mins at one point. It was cast, hookup, snap, rerig, cast, hookup, snap etc. Like all things there was a negative side, considerable damage to the population of lures in my tackle box, bruises on my tummy, my arms ache, my back aches, my rod and reel has been abused and im kind of addicted now. Definitely no regrets as i hit bigger and more fish then few previous trips put together, probably cheaper too. The catch and release policy didnt bother me at all because i’m used to buying my fish from the market. As a (quite unsuccessful) lure fisherman, its probably cheaper for me that way. haha plus I had a really good time a made new friends :). Lures, very angry fish, non stop action and good company is what fishing is all about to me.
I think this pond is managed by Lure Haven (maybe they have their Malaysian counterparts’ involvement as well, not too sure).
Attached is a breakdown of the costs. Hope it helps.

Congrats for the good catch..care to share your tackles set-up look very expensive..Saw some Certates,Caldia,Calcutta, custom handles,Evergreen Rod even the Boga Grip look very salivating..[:D]
yoyo badus, u gotta ask fishrus and hansters about the flashy gear. I haven’t been in the tackle scene for awhile now and am just getting back into action. i’m only using a Calcutta 50b, 14lb fireline crystal and GL3 10-17lb. Drags were modified and maxed out and we still suffered big losses to the fish. But yea.. the other boys were using flashy gear with flashy expensive japs lures. Me? cheap soft plastics most of the time. Badus are you from Sabah? I was just talking to a friend from work. He’s going back to Sabah after 20th Nov and asked me to join him for 2 days inshore fishing trips (monsoon?). I was wondering if the timing is ok for fishing?
