Madai fishing anyone??

Hi Bros,

I am not sure if many of you guys are into “Kabara jigging” or “Madai” fishing. I have been trying this type of fishing since late last year and it was not so successful. Recently, one of my team mate gave me some pointers and also with our new Williamson samples, we have been trying them and finally, I started to see results. I had a wonderful day out at Singapore sea, doing this type of fishing and the results are very good by Singapore standard. I will post some photos tomorrow. Too tired now after hours on the sea [:D]

Finally got the chance to download some catches yesterday. I am not sure how many brothers here like Madai fishing as I am willing to share the finer points of Madai fishing. Enjoy the catches first [:D]

Wow..nice catches bro…

Bro Gekko,

Can’t wait to try them in Penang waters? Do you do this type of fishing?

Hi Fred…
I`ve tried a few times without any sucess.
I find it very difficult to do this type of fishing here in Penang waters which have an average
of minimum 60 meters in depth.
Furthermore in Straits of Malacca usually the current is quite fast even during low tide and a bit difficult
for jigs that are below 100gm(It will take forever to reach bottom).Even when it reaches bottom normally our jigs
are way off from the fishing spot already.

From my person view, this type of jigging is more suitable in shallow
fishing ground (10-40meters)with slow moving current.[:(]

Bro Gekko,

Yes for deeper waters, it is harder cos you will need heavier jigs and better feel. We were fishing around the 40-70meters last Saturday.

We have fished Jarak around the 60-90meters depth, you will need 200g jig and choose the tide that is the slowest. Slower tide are good for fishing bottom dewellers. The other point is that, drifting is more effective for such fishing. I understand in Penang, most spots are wrecks, so not too sure if the captain is willing to drift and re-position the boat each time.

That`s is one of the problem oso. Usually the boatman here are not so cooperative enough.
They would rather park their boat than drifting. To them this method is will save their fuel and very economical to them.
Hehehe…

No regret…

argh… yeah, that is a problem when the captain refuses to drift. The fuel cost is not that much if you think of it ha.. it is just the extra trouble for positioning the boat again and again[:D] They rather drop anchor and take a rest, haiz…
