Following the success of bro Slimfish managing a 1.4kg Haruan on soft plastic (in this thread with photo - http://www.fishing.net.my/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=12063&whichpage=22), I am keen to encourage anglers to go out and try for the magic 2 kilo size haruan with lures or soft plastic.
It seemed that from lessons lure via MFN, many newbies and experienced anglers are learning to catch faster, bigger and better fish. Like any U-series, there are no prizes for best catch here but a bragging right and also respect from your peers. Please measure as accurately (and honestly because the witnesses are yourself and him above you only [:D]) as possible. There are no judges.
2 kg used to be easy in the heydays in Malaysia but today it is a challenge and an adventure! Haruan anglers are a unique breed. They come from diverse background; from cikgus to executives to businessmen to retirees and also Mat Salleh geologist. They are usually unbelievably zealous for haruan fishing because when they set their mind for a haruan on that day, other species doesn’t matter. The harder the location, the higher the satisfaction. As they say in one of those fishing ads; sometimes to get to heaven, you need to go through a little hell.
Many of you who intend to undergo this particular challenge, please be a good and responsible sports fishermen. There would be young and new anglers looking up to you.
Good luck in your journey and may you learn more from the soft plastic and lure gurus. Awaiting eagerly for the coming photos and reports of the Magic 2…

For your information, I have a weighing equipment in my bag. I was excited and quickly weigh it immediately after the catch. I hope too that everyone would be honest about their catch. You shall be your own judge. I have my friends with me when the fish was weighed. So, everybody, let’s keep up the spirit of the haruan fishing sport![8D][:)]
Challenges on 2kg. on SP lah, why show the ones on SB? I got many 2kg picture also dare not post here because haven’t caught one over a kg. on SP and not even seen a SP on a haruan at this tread "http://www.fishing.net.my/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=11788 . So please keep within the subject.
No hard feelings.
Vincent,
If some one gets a 2kg. one will it goes into “Malaysia Book Of Record”? Ha! Ha!
Feeding fish if not get any on rod and line, let them grow bigger to fish another day.
Hi Vincent,
Nice to open up this thread for everyone to post their record of catching haruan of more than 2 Kg. To make the record more authentic I propose that the posting need to have at least the following:
At site photos of the fish with the lure used and hooking at its
original position when the fish was caught.
Photo showing the needle of the weighing scale pointing at the
weight of the fish. Calibrate the weighing scale before using it
for weighing the fish.
Photo showing measurement of the fish tip to tip.
Photo showing angler holding the fish at the site where it was
caught and not else where.
It is a very nice thread of yours to keep everyone’s record.
No problem Gentlemen, SP only on Marlin’s help on SP’s thread, any type of lure on this one. The aim is a 2kg + haruan. Lets see how difficult it is to get a 2kg haruan these days and what anglers prefer to use to catch them.

kinda good page this is… and i also support the rules given from maguro. i will try to break my own record and set this page a record. this is an encouragement towards a good sports fishing. although there is no gift, but we all knew that the excitement of fishing is the gift of all gift we get!!!
Although my pic didn’t meet the demand of so called ‘rules’ but anyway, just start the ball running…
1.5kg haruan on storm wildeye shad 8cm plastic(the exact lure in the second pic at the rod’s lure holder).
Mainline 12lb sufix herculine and 20lb Duel leader.
Using St Croix Premier, 4-10lb 2pcs coupled with shimano calcutta51.
Sorry if don’t meet up the demand, but i always able to fish alone only due to my tight schedule… But everything stated is totally true as i have record down such record catch in my mobile… Hopefully no one think i’m bluffing here… Wat to do la, alone how to take perfect pic?
The weighing was done in 2 places, once using the foldable rapala net i’m holding in the 2nd pic the other time is at home just to further convince myself, welll my dad was there, need proof?
And sorry bro slimfish, broke ur record haha, by a mere 100grams… now i’m too waiting for someone to broke my record, just as the chinese saying goes “there’re always a higher mountain after another!”
Barely a month after SPM i need to go college pulak, sigh! Give me a break!
Well done Tan. I am hoping more posting of bigger fish caught using SPs will come in. Get the photos flowing in guys! Keep the spirit of haruan fishing burning.
TJS, a soft plastic capture, correct? And in fairly muddy water by the look of it? Not 2 kg’s, but chalk up another decent fish for the SP boys!!! And in double quick time. Soft plastics are deadly on all sizes of haruan. Please post this on the Marlin SP thread. It’s getting a bit off track and needs bringing back into focus.
Nice job, bro!

Does that means if guys fishing without these mentioned equipment they are:
Disqualify?
Undisclose site due to reconization?
Rear haruan are they taken into conderation?
Semi soft SP consider or 100% SP?
Not many haruan kakis carry what you mentioned on their expeditions. In order to qualify are we supposed to have these equipment or purchase them from now onwards?. Do you do that?
After all is a friendly challenge and no throphies. Anyone who cheats shall answer to ‘JUDGE’</font id=“red”> up there and ultimately we shall know when we are in eternity.

Jaswon, I think it’s ok, Vincent meant any lures for the 2kg Haruan, sp’s, spinnerbaits, harbodies, whatever. It gives us all a good indication of what people are using to get their big haruan.
Marlin’s help thread on SP’s however is more specific. That’s a big haruan on SP’s only, prefereably over the magic 2kg so we can enter it here, but any fish on SP’s are welcome on a thread about how to fish SP’s.
So you get the best of both worlds here. I’m good with that. Also, let’s not forget it’s a 2kg haruan challenge, on a lure (not a live frog bait) and all fish to date on this thread have fallen short of that mark. Judging from the sacks and plastic bags in the shots so far, there’s a few 1.xx kg haruan that will never make it to 2 kg’s now!
Funny how Vincent’s post mentions it’s a challenge to get a fish of this size these days. You don’t say? I wonder why?

Totally agree with SPs sifu Marlin. All the catches above 2kgs only regardless of whatever lures used, be it SP, harbodies, sbs, etc. should come under this thread.
We would not be able to know how the other lures are performing if only SPs catches are posted here.
BUT please post only those photos with fish above 2kgs lah… Some photos do not even show the weight of the fish???
Have fun.[:)][:)]
