It is not for bragging, it is just for the sake of sharing,
Could anyone tell me the size of your mainline when succesfully landed a Pacu?
Can i use 8lb Japan Size line equivalent with 2lb Europe monofilament line?
If we can see some monofilament line are rated as 8lb but the diameter is so thin compared with europe line (berkley trilene for example)
So i think the Berkley Trilene rate is at the knot stength but the Japan monofilament line rate are at the strength itself.
So i believe Berkley Trilene line 8lb rate are actually 15lb rate without any knot.
Since i just bought 8lb Ichiban monofilament which is really really thin line, may i use it for pacu?
Thank you…[:D]
izhar,
I am also using Ichiban 60% fluro-carbon 15lb now. Previously used 10lb. Liked the thinness very much. And those mainline never snapped when handling Pacus, including the 8-9kg one I last fought with in FV. It was the rig that counts I think. I use a swivel and a metal sleeve so the pacu sharp teeth can’t reach the leader line. If I tie knot straight to the hook, when fighting with pacu, no confidence lah because chances of landing is lower than using swivel and metal sleeve haha
Interesting topic & helpful…Thanks Guys
Thanks Weng
May i know what kind of knot you use to tie that small diameter line to your swivel Clip?
I’m using Trilene knot but i found Trilene knot is choking it self and not suitable for small diameter line, the smaller the line, the sharper it is when choking.
Big diameter line is no problem using Trilene knot…
or perhaps i should use albright knot to tie the line directly with steel leader?
How about you?
Hi Izhar,
For thinner lines, I “double tie” the knot…something like this

I use swivel and metal sleeve like this

And if you want it more secured from the pacu’s sharp teeth, put a small polyester before the metal sleeve. I’m very “kiasu” like our neighbour down south…hahaha

And my own DIY Doreamon rig. I have never seen a doreamon rig. I figure out from what Bang Patin wrote here. I put 2 swivel here for 2 hooks rig for a bigger piece of bread

thanks Weng for your tips on double tie the knot. It really helps…
