I believe Yozuri has a kit form squid jig. saw it at Ubob’s at RM9.90. Maybe you may want to try that first. comes with all the parts, simple assembly and painting. This can form the bais and would very much shorten your learning curve to creating a squid lure from scatch.

Actually he lives and works in Japan. I guess he wants to introduce himself and share his workings with us. But, not harm if any senior can give more advise.

Fun 2 Fish, Fish 4 Fun

thank you to all for the cutting knife and blade. I would buy a good one oneday.
Actually I have already finished my first squid jig body. It`s took only one day to finished it. But I dont have lure making equipment now, so its took a few time to complete the body. Tomorrow I will go to the 100yen shop to buy the kain…here is my first squid jig body. Above is original Yamasita squid jig call Egi Q, below is mine.

The attempt looks good Kamachan. Some nice knifves to get will be along the shape like here: http://www.agrussell.com/knives/by_purpose/wood_carving.html U’ll only need one short one for lure project, blade length of 3cm is quite enough. And yes a real sharp knife makes easy work of carving. NEVER use tools that are not razor sharp, they will tear or rip wood or worse slip and cut you.

See these too:

FR,

2K aaaaaa[:O][:O][:O].. nevermind laa.. forget about it. Maybe can modified my jigsaw…

wondering I`m give up making this thing? nope..here there are my first squid jig have already done and tested. Sorry, the picture is not very clear, I take it with my handphone…

My first squid jig body operation. I have some problem with my carving tools, (or my hands, i donno). The digger carver not perform very well, i`ve tried to sharpened it, but still cannot dig well. Take a few times.

This is the sinker. I would like to know, what is the best material to make the mold. For a moment, I use my ashtray to make this thing, dont think its become like the picture when I put melted timah in the ashtray, I cut and cut again to and asah to have the thing like picture above.

err..I jump one step here. We have to tampal aluminium sticker on the body, and coloring it with gold magic pen. I forgot to take the picture here. After that we design the patern of the body on the piece of paper, cut it up, and then use some florecence spray to have the color like above. (use any color you like, but remember, when you Eging, its important that you can see and know where the squid jig moving when there come near to you, so that you not jerking the jig over the water, so for me, I like to use the color which human easy to see it in the water, not for attract the squid.)

After cutting the kain. Ready to put the hook and the sinker.

Done!

This is the result of the test. But I`m still not satisfied with my squid jig perfomance, its to speedy diving in the water, I donno why this squid want to strike my jig. I have to repair the sinker, its too heavy i think (hehehe..do not have weight measure at home). One thing, maybe the aluminium sticker is too berat juga, because I main tampal-tampal lubang yg tak tertutup)

Right now i`m working the next squid jig, for size 2.5 and 3.0. See you on the next EGI.

That’s very good for a first attempt. Keep up the good work & jangan lupa produuce banyak sikit untuk kawan2 [:D]

Bondo (the 2 past paste used by cat kereta guys to tampal minir holes) can be used to make lead molds, won’t last very long but for small productions it’s the easiest to use.
