alternatively, to make simpler eyes like storm’s yellow eyes, use yellow paint and then a drop of black to make them. look at the old rapalas which have simple eyes. or just punch out some yellow/white decals and then use a marker pen to make the pupil.

tight lines, bent rods, spitting lures & singing reels…
Another way to paint eyes is just use a nail head or round dowel the size of the eye u want. Dip the tip in the paint u want & just stamp it on ur lure, wait to dry & stamp the black pupil with a smaller nail/dowel. Practice first on a piece of scrap wood or paper so u know exactly how much paint should be on the tip to make a perfect eye.
If u have seen the Rapala factory visit video from the March 2006 Rod&Line magazine, u can see the automatad eye stamping that Rapala does for their lure in there too.
more than 1/2 of my lure r with epoxy eyes ala FT, just like it
lately, i ve been using holographic sticker or other shinning coloured sticker as decals n do a epoxy pupil on it,
look pretty nice 2
we just molested lapala’s COLLECTION of handmade epoxy 3-d eyes. and to think that buying a strip of what, say 10-12 epoxy eyes from a branded luremaking company costs about RM 10-20 is absolutely so not me…
alternatively, u can buy pre-made 3d eyes over the net for a meager sum. but that is just so not handcrafted…originality is what it’s all about.

Yup FT is right. Handcrafted all the way if possible. That’s what makes it all worth it… And the feeling of catching fish with your own baits…undescrivable
I use 30 min epoxy glue instead of the 5min ones cos i don’t know why i can’t make them(5min epoxy) dry and they are not clear at all. Still look good for me those that i made. But as u can see, got some bubbles in it. ok or not and how to get rid of the bubles to all sifu and master?
try using a solid thing when mixing the glue, such as a bent paper clip. make L shape and use it to mix the epoxy. mix it with slow regular movements, and not like making milo hahahha…
also, try not to lift the wire away from the epoxy while mixing bcoz everytime u lift it and dunk it back and lift it again, will cause bubbles to for.
do it very slowly, and u will get nice results.
5 min epoxy is used instead of 30 min is because it sets faster and u can get the globular shape of the eye easier.
if u use 30 mins, it will be very watery to work with
the only problem with 5min epoxy is they turn yellow faster than 30 min epoxy. but i guess if the eyes have a yellow tint to it is not much of a problem at all, maybe even look better
FT,
btw what material do you use to make the black part? I use the black ink for chinese caligraphy and it harden so fast. I only manage to make about 3 pairs each time [:p]
maybe next time i shoudln’t be too greedy to make in bulk. after mixing with other ingredients they tend to harden very fast, less then 1 min after adding the black ink. the volume of epoxy was enough for more than 20 unit but ended up only get 3 ~ 4 pairs, wasted [:(]
sometimes i get too lazy and thinking of just using marker pen to draw the eyes [:p]

Hai ya guys. Predo ur eye backings & dots then after u coat ur lures whatever left over devcon u can then use for ur eyes. Dot ur eyes with sticker or paint be easier way to go. Else u can drip black epoxy by itself onto tiny nail heads first, do a batch then just collect these to put onto ur shiny stickers later.
Here’s mine ready for epoxy drips when I coat lures:
